Pro Life

If a person supports the Texas abortion ban yet supports the death penalty, is that person Pro Life? In my opinion, no. That person is a hypocrite. It is far better to keep someone in prison for life than execute him/her. The reason? That person has to face the fact they will never be able to leave where they are going to live for the rest of their life. It gives that person time to live amongst those who have committed crimes that put them in prison for an extended time. Punishment is the fact they are inhibited in their movements. They are constantly under surveillance. They will never be able to do what they did outside of prison ever again. Yes, there will be some that will kill, or attempt to kill, someone in prison, but those are few and far between. They will live among their ilk. They will die in prison, not by execution but by facing the fact they will live out their life in the same surroundings with people just like him/her self.

if there were a mistake in the process between slapping on the handcuffs that first time and the final clink of the cell door, such that an innocent person is convicted or is convicted of a more severe crime and later determined to be in error, then the person could be released and things could be made right (or at least less bad).

But if the convict listed above were executed, then there is no way to bring the convict back to life - it's irreversible and irreparable. Also, if a killer were executed, then that ultimately increases that criminal's body count by one - the criminal.

Prison is the best answer. Execution allows the person found guilty to escape long term punishment for his/her conduct. The longer in prison, the better the punishment.

Some people prefer to be put to death as a martyr to their cause.

Timothy McVeigh of the OK City bombing.
