Adam Schiff Says Kevin McCarthy Becoming House Speaker Is Essentially Giving Trump the Job
His comments, made during an upcoming interview on C-SPAN's Book TV, come as next fall's midterm elections are still more than a year away. But, House Republicans are already beginning to position McCarthy to replace Pelosi if they can flip the House in their favor.
"If Kevin McCarthy were ever to become speaker, essentially Donald Trump would be speaker," the California Democrat said.
Though Trump has maintained a relatively low profile since leaving office, likely facilitated by his bans from several social media platforms, Schiff has remained a staunch critic of the former president. He became outspoken during the probe on Russian election interference and Trump's first impeachment.
He has called Trump a "clear and present danger" to democracy in the U.S. and now continues to circle the former president as a key member of the House Select Committee on the January 6 Capitol riot, the AP reported.
