Capitol police officer offered to let January 6 rioter stay at his home and arrange a tour of the

building 'legally next time,' feds say

A Capitol Police officer accused of helping a January 6 rioter invited the man to stay at his home and get a tour of the Capitol building on his next trip to Washington DC, messages obtained by prosecutors show.

Michael Angelo Riley - a Capitol cop who worked with the K-9 unit and has been in the force for almost 25 years - was indicted on Friday on two counts of obstruction.

Federal prosecutors allege Riley told a rioter that he agreed with his "political stance" and advised him to remove online photos to avoid being pursued by the FBI.

In the days after the insurrection, Riley exchanged messages with the accused rioter about fishing and invited the man to stay at his home.

I hope his conviction would affect his pension. I doubt it would, but it should. marble falls Oct 2021 #1

... that said, this is 90%+ a man's crime. It is so prevalent that it is as societal as it is unspeakable.
It's going to take more than harsh enough punishments. A sea change in society is what's needed.

I am more ashamed of males in society every day. I've accepted there will never be any more 'easy' relationships for me with women or children, I'll have to stand back and prove myself to them.

Sad, heart breaking for me, and I get it.

This cop betrayed his fellow officers. Some seriously hurt they died in the line of duty on Jan6. Others still not physically or emotionally right. Lock him up. Take his pension. He should know better. No mercy.

He broke his contract with the Capitol Police - endangered the folks he's paid to protect, betrayed fellow officers, violated the Constitution, and let seditionists try to pull off a coup.
Throw away the effin' key.

When that individual was charged, Riley warned him of the charges and had a 23-minute phone call. That person then told others that his and their charges would only involve trespassing. At one point someone else sent Riley a video of that man smoking weed in Congress, and Riley said he already knew about it.

“Next time you want to come to D.C., just call me. You can stay at my house on the shore for free and bring your daughter to the museums. If you want to see the capitol building lets do it legally next time… i know a guy who can get you a tour...lol,” Riley sent in one message. “Its behind you now...lesson learned!”

Riley and the man continued to exchange friendly messages for more than two weeks. When the man warned Riley that he’d told the FBI of their conversations, Riley then deleted all of their Facebook direct messages. He seemingly tried to cover up for his previous actions by claiming the man had misled him about how he wound up in the building and blasted him for “smoking weed and acting like a moron” in the Capitol before saying he wouldn’t be in touch with him anymore.
