Hey everyone
The results of the October Competition have been tabulated and I am as pleased as punch to announce the results.
For those who did not get a chance to see the OPs on the comp the theme was "Roadscapes, rural or urban, old or new".
A big thank you to everyone who participated and for everyone who took the time to vote and make such lovely comments. Please be assured that the entrants of the competition really appreciate them.
So without further ado the runaway winner of the contest is Heartstrings with an absolutely STUNNING picture.
The road less traveled...
Second place goes to Grumpy Old Guy who always manages to make a long shot look incredible and they are so not easy!
Yellowhead Highway
And in third place MichaelSoE with a glorious road picture at dusk, country stark against a darkening sky. Magic hour indeed.
Magic Hour
I think we can all agree that they are worthy winners, one and all and deserve a huge round of applause!
And for the valued prize of winning Heartstrings gets to provide the theme for the next contest. Everyone look out for it - if you voted this time, maybe you might think of entering next time? Just sayin' 👀

(3,158 posts)We were on our way to Alaska, but one hundred miles of the road south of Dawson Creek were closed due to flooding. We took a detour from Prince George to Jasper National Park to get around the closures. We had no idea what to expect on the way. Wow, were we ever surprised!
Bev54
(10,045 posts)highways from Alberta to BC, Trans Canada Hwy from Calgary through Golden or the Southern Highway Crowsness Pass from Alberta to BC Kootenay region. They are all equally stunning.
Grumpy Old Guy
(3,158 posts)I will look into those highways for our next trip there. We took the Cassiar Highway on the way home from Alaska and loved that too.

(3,158 posts)I love the way the waning, golden sunset and shadows play out over the fields. The sunlight hitting the barn is the icing on the cake. The curving road is a great leading line as well.

(14,862 posts)Really, the most difficult set of photos to pick from from the get go of the three threads. Congratulations to all!
Glad 3 of my most favorites made the top three.
Heartstrings - As a tree lover, strong composition, but it's the colors that put over the top for me.
I don't think I've ever seen a Winter photo with a
Pearlescent Glow: white, greys, pale blues, pale pinks, pale peach - I often use water pearls in my jewelry making.
Grumpy Old Guy - love Mountains, too! This time I more noticed the further back middle ground of the left downward slope of that tree covered hill. It's a lovely color and makes it a nice transition to those powerful mountains.
Tetons? Or somewhere in Canada.
MichaelSoE - strong composition with that L road, and hill horizon, buildings and silouetted tree group.
It's the colors near swoony in beautiful contrast: yellow to orangey clouds, sunlight orange grazing the tops of the fields contrast with deep browns, some black, deep blue sky, and just noticed that little pop of red ?fence where the horizontal road meets the uphill road.
👏👏👏
Grumpy Old Guy
(3,158 posts)I agree with everything you said about all three photos.
I love that the hill in the middle background of my photo is the color that it is. It adds an extra layer to the image, and adds depth. That hill tells us that the road must curve to the right as soon as it drops over that first ridge.
This is Mount Robson in Alberta, Canada, not far from Jasper National Park.

(7,349 posts)Thank you everyone for the beautiful messages and votes for The road less travelled! Im truly honored and happy you enjoyed the shot
.
The photo was taken just down the road from where I lived in Rudolph, WI. Rudolph (population 439 last census) is located just 7.7 miles North of WI Rapids and is best known for the cheese factory located smack dab in the middle of this small burg. What? A cheese factory in WI? Ahhhh yes
.and watching the curds being made is a delicious perk of living in close proximity of an actual cheese factory and having easy access to still warm, squeaky cheese curds!
Anyway
.It was truly a magical scene I woke up to the morning that shot was taken. A winter wonderland for most of the day, mild temps, sunshine and then we got slammed with another foot and a half of snow later that night and plummeting wind chills! Winter in Wisconsin!
Not sure how or when Im supposed to name the new contest theme, but I have one in mind so Im ready!
I have to give a huge shout out to all the participants! You all rock! So much beauty and inspiration from each and every submission! DU has a lot of talent and creativity. Fortunate to a part of this forum
.
Peace and love,
Heartstrings
Grumpy Old Guy
(3,158 posts)You have a cheese curd factory right in town!?
I'm jealous! 🤣😉
Heartstrings
(7,349 posts)The area Im in now, Dane County, is solid blue
..not so much up by the cheese factory! I do miss the easy walking access to those curds however!
