what a surprise..getting my ass kicked a bit by the Moderna booster

A few weeks ago I got the old dude's dose of flu vaccine (for 65 and older) - that really kicked my ass good, essentially went through all symptoms of the flu from the time I got to bed until morning (fever, aches, chills, nausea, sweats) - then was fine the next day.

Yesterday afternoon I got the Moderna booster - painless injection, really no arm pain -all fine. Went to bed at midnight and essentially went through flu like symptoms all night - couldn't get comfortable, fever, chills, sweats, dizzy, nausea, aches and pains. This morning ( checked my temp - 100.5 (right now, 2 hours later, still at 100). Waves of dizziness come and go, and I think it is going to be a SLOW day with naps (this is what happened after my second Moderna shot - day after I was pretty much useless).

Anyway - it's all good, glad my body is reacting as it is, and just from this there is NO WAY I would want to experience COVID. I guess I'm surprised the half dose hit me like this. I do wonder if it is proximity to the heavy duty flu vaccine.

Off to take a nap! Be well, all!

My husband and I got our flu shots on Tuesday, felt pretty good Wednesday, sick, sick, sick both of us on Thursday with chills, sweats, severe dizziness, headaches, body aches, fever of 100 and appetite gone and spacey. Could not remember anything. This morning I ate my breakfast - a smaller portion - but REAL FOOD. Yummy!!

Moderna. My arm felt like what I imagine actually being shot would actually feel like, both times. I could barely lift the arm I had the injection in each time, for about 48 hours. No other symptoms.(I worry maybe it didn't work as well as those that have had symptoms similar to yours)
I hope you feel better soon.

I got the elder flu vax and had a slightly sore arm for
half a day.

With Moderna I got nauseous the next morning, a very
sore arm, a hot body but no chills, and general sluggishness
and an achy feeling. It was gone the next day.

I'm sorry you went through those reactions, but I'm sure
they were worth it.

I'm expecting the third will put me under a bit, and will schedule it for a Friday after my next Saturday blood donation.

I had 3rd Pfizer a month ago & 65+ flu shot with tdap 2 wks later.

3rd Pfizer caused very mild tenderness at injection site. No reaction to flu & tdap shots.

Not sure if this is good or bad...

way better to experience this for one day than to have COVID for several weeks or more and then die like an antivaxxer.

I felt a little sick earlier this month with a dry cough and fatigue. Then felt better after about 3 days. Maybe it was COVID but my Moderna vaccinated immunity kicked it's ass right out of my body. I also had the seasonal flu shot.

and other folks it is more gradual so it's less noticeable. I got a strong reaction to Moderna but nothing from the seasonal flu vaccine.

at the same time, NewHendoLib.

It's generally because the body recognizes the vaccine as a foreign invader, so to speak. It's the process the immune system goes through to provide more lasting antibodies to fight the virus. And according to what I've read, the more of a reaction a person has to the second shot and booster indicates that the protections provided in the earlier vaccinations has waned considerably subsequently.

and my arm was very sore for a few days. not much longer after that got the booster (Pfizer). I found my side effects from the booster were the mildest of all 3 shots.

I'm thinking I'll go for the Moderna with my next booster shot - I believe it has a better record at keeping breakthrough infections out of the hospital.

After hearing the CDC representative address this in an interview I scheduled by 67 year old sister for Flu shot and Moderna booster. Her reaction as the flu shot arm was sore for a couple of days and she felt tired the next day. She napped and was good the next day except the flu arm continued to be sore an additional day or so. We just all react differently here’s hoping you are back on top of the world soon!

WASHINGTON — COVID-19 boosters are now available for millions of Americans.
On October 21, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky officially greenlit Moderna boosters for individuals in select high-risk groups at least six months after their second vaccine and Johnson&Johnson boosters for anyone 18 and older at least two months after their shot. Back in September, Pfizer's booster went through the FDA's emergency use authorization and CDC's recommendation process.

The CDC is also allowing a 'mix and match' approach when it comes to a Moderna, Johnson&Johnson and Pfizer booster; meaning eligible individuals no longer need to stick with the same brand of booster as the brand of their initial series.
"There are now booster recommendations for all three available COVID-19 vaccines in the United States," the CDC statement reads. "Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots."
As we enter flu season, our VERIFY team looked into whether you can get a flu shot at the same time as a COVID booster or a COVID vaccine, if you haven't gotten one already.
THE QUESTION:

Can you get the flu shot at the same time as a COVID-19 vaccine or COVID-19 booster?
THE SOURCES:

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention- "Frequently Asked Influenza (Flu) Questions: 2021-2022 Season;" "Interim Clinical Considerations for Use of COVID-19 Vaccines Currently Approved or Authorized in the United States"
Dr. William Schaffner- professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University
Dr. Amesh Adalja- infectious disease critical care and emergency medicine physician, assistant professor and senior scholar at Johns Hopkins University
THE ANSWER:

Yes.
WHAT WE FOUND:

Our Verify researchers turned to information from the CDC and spoke with Dr. William Schaffner, professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University, and Dr. Amesh Adalja, assistant professor and senior scholar at Johns Hopkins University.
They all said you can get a COVID shot and routine vaccines, like the flu shot, simultaneously.

and my Moderna booster 24 hours ago. No side affect from the flu shot, but the Moderna booster hit me like a relaxing valium shot when I later nodded off watching TV sports just after noon, and woke all relaxed and just feeling like a lazy bum all day.

Today, it's just the sore arm pain, and back to normal already. I got off lucky in the after affects arena.
