As everyone but two illiterate residents of Mars knows, our Governor Cuomo got drummed out office for feeling up interns.
No argument there, but the good news is that it gave Governor Hochul a chance to shine. Most of us here downstate had little idea of that light under the Cuomo bushel. She, being human, has made mistake or two, but has been one our better Guvs.
So now comes Letitia on her golden chariot looking to grab the fleece of Albany. No problem with her as AG, and she has tormented the slovenly ex Prez, but why take two women of proven worth and throw them against each other-- winner take all? And at what price?
25,000 bucks for a "pre-candidate" dinner? Every labor leader in the state invited to invest member dues money in a lottery?
Of course, they aren't the only ones, but we now look forward to a season of bloodletting before the gory winner with her last breath faces my present Congressman on the altar of power.
And, btw, I thought we had a really good chance to get that seat back with a savvy local legislator. But now another savvy local legislator has raised her curly head in challenge.
Primary wars are killers. Did Lincoln or FDR have to suffer them?

In a way, this is a good symptom. We've got enough successful women in politics that they are now competing against each other just like the men.

(9,706 posts)politics of yesteryear. Frankly, in many ways, I think that system produced better candidates, because they were chosen by people who lived and breathed politics from the precinct level up to state level. But I think we're stuck with primaries from here on out. Primary wars really are killers.

(8,931 posts)It's a really great story actually. I know Doris Kearns Goodwin covered it in Team of Rivals.
Pretty much everyone except him was expected to win the Republican nomination. In the end, they all worked for him.

(15,751 posts)the primaries, opposed mainly by George Wallace, [ whose racist posture, was 'premature' and not ripe for winning].

(93,843 posts)I hate pointless Primaries because they waste money that could be spent on other races. But Primaries are an essential part of Politics unless you want to go back to smoke filled rooms.

A young Chicago Senator should wait his turn.
I celebrate the tremendous talent pool that we have.
Let the best woman win.
