"If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion," Flynn said at a ReAwaken America event in San Antonio. "One nation under God, and one religion under God."

I took a moment to dig to make sure the broader context was, in fact, Christian nationalist in nature.
Answer: Yup, and it arguably gets *even more so* the longer you watch.
Under his eye... if they had their way...

Theocratic far right extremists same the world over... nothing to go with faith, everything to do with power and control, patriarchal control freaks they are, and they all need to do one.

(8,200 posts)Just think we could have massive MAGA hoards celebrating the burning at the stake for heresy. And not to forget the joy of drunken lynching parties. Generous bounties will also stimulate the economy of rural hamlets.

Madison also made a point that any believer of any religion should understand: that the government sanction of a religion was, in essence, a threat to religion. "Who does not see," he wrote, "that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other Religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other Sects?" Madison was writing from his memory of Baptist ministers being arrested in his native Virginia.

There was a time, when even I would say I was over-exaggerating, sigh, but not in today's political climate.

(10,252 posts)Yes I wrote 325 AD -- not the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. That's when Constantine the Great convened the 1st council of Nicea to answer 3 questions, one of which was: is Jesus a god, a prophet, a son of god, what? Because if Jesus was divine then what about the bit of there being only 1 god? So they came up with the dogma of the Trinity -- 3 in 1 --- Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Anyone who didn't agree and confirm that the Trinity was so got labeled a heretic and run out of town or murdered. The Christian Church was a Roman invention, and the Roman's had a very brutal society, run by war-mongering patricians. Sound familiar? All that stuff about Jesus is love and peace -- that's what they say, not necessarily what they do.
As a Buddhist myself, I'm pretty sure they would burn me at the stake.
BTW: Many of the founding fathers were not "Christians" per se. They were Deists. Oh they went to church, but I think that was mostly for social reasons.

All other issues of importance pale in comparison, for if we do not stop the fascists, all is lost.
Forever.
The time for squabbling over other issues is after we contain the fascist threat.
