Coming to a red state near you
The Polish government are planning to introduce a centralised register of pregnancies which would oblige doctors to report all pregnancies and miscarriages to the government.
The proposed register would come into effect in January 2022, a year after Poland introduced a near-total ban on abortion.
This has raised serious concerns for womens rights activists, who believe that in light of Polands near-total abortion ban, the register could be used to cause legal difficulties for women who have self-administered abortions.
The draft legislation is part of a wide ranging project to update the medical information system in Poland.
Its about control, its about making sure that pregnancies end with birth, Natalia Broniarczyk, an activist from Aborcyjny Dream Team told the Polish weekly, Gazeta Wyborcza.

Have a miscarriage, go to prison. Why risk that?
What choice do you have?
No prenatal doctor care. This is what these religious zealots want?

(5,490 posts)Its about punishing women, and always has been. They would be thrilled if all impure whores bled out, because theyre insane. They dont actually care about the baby.
Its the same reason why they would try to ban contraceptives after abortion. The ultimate goal is to have complete control over womens bodies and lives.

I don't think these men understand how common miscarriages are.

(54,325 posts)During the socialist era, they were considered the most unreliable member of the Warsaw Pact. When the Soviets had large shipment of secret documents that they wanted shipped back from Stanlinist East Germany back to the Soviet Union, they loaded them in sealed and armored train cars, and shipped them in nonstop trains through Poland to the Soviet border. The trains had machine guns at each end to guard against vandalism. At the East-German-Polish border, the guns were manned and loaded. When the trains passed from Poland into Soviet territory, the guns were unloaded again, and remained that way for the rest of the journey.
I was always against including Poland in NATO and the EU, but of course, I'm just some jerk from America, what do I know? I have been working with those people since before the wall fell. I have worked with their government, getting certain things in order--except that there is no order there. It's a bunch of very selfish people--some very nice, some can't even spell the Polish word for "smile"--with some wonderful people interspersed. But it's the bad apples that have the sway for sure. It's like the USA in the Trump era, but just as disorganized as it was in the socialist days--fortunately for us.
Like France, you would be hard-put to find greater critics of Poland than the Poles, themselves. They know what's going there. Italian-style chaos and corruption with the old Prussian style of macho authoritarianism. It's not a good combination.

(41,956 posts)As I think they will there. Midwives, folk doctors, traditional doctors, activists, this will become a sophisticated and fulsome movement and many people are going to suffer to try to ease the suffering of others.
