24. My trumpflake "adult" son has been calling me a "Jussie Smollett supporter" throughout this trial.
He never even heard of Smollett until a couple of months ago. RWNJ propaganda outlets and his podcast overlords tell him what to think and say. Even after telling the kid that I thought he was guilty, and an asshole, and a liar, I was informed that "all of you libtards support n-word criminals". I have no idea what that is supposed to mean, but I generally laugh whenever he speaks these days.

The typical person who thinks the Smollett trial is important stuff usually has a Pepe type of avatar and also thought the FOX tree being set on fire was done by Soros and Kamala Harris personally and a post signature with "Let's Go Brandon".

36. Ugggh. I saw a large "Let's Go, Brandon" sticker on a car at my daughter's school today.
It had an image of Orange Anus on it. I looked to see who was driving.
I don't personally know her, but rest assured, she's a "Karen". I've seen her in action at school events. Our kids are several grades apart, so I don't have to deal with her. Five more months and my daughter graduates to High School. She's been getting a decent education at her elementary school, but I'm seeing a hard right swing in some of the other parents coming in. I even got more involved in the PTO starting two years ago to help dilute the rightie presence. |

21. I expected this. This case was a mess. He was guilty. The real problem is this...
Smollett, for whatever his reasons were, became the guy who cried wolf.
This hurts society because he cheapened what actually happens to people sometimes. And it happens too often. He fucked up bad. Not only the lying, but now the convictions, and he's going to get his ass sued by The City of Chicago, and rightly so. He'll never have a decent acting career again. It's bad enough that there are racist attacks every day in this nation, but trying to fake that kind of situation just to get some attention is despicable. It helps no one, and hurts many. And, I'd like to say to Mr. Smollett -- Chicago is not "maga country". Thank you for that insult. |

29. Smollett lied but hate crimes happen every day.
The white fragility types (who actually think whites are the victims in America) will fixate on Smollett because it plays into their belief that racism (and sexism, homophobia, etc) itself is a hoax.
What Rittenhouse did (murdered two people with an assault weapon) was far worse, but being a white boy (who the judge and jurors could sympathize with as 'one of their own') he got special treatment and walked away scott free. |

How do you feel about him outing a Nigerian man, which may put his life in danger in his own country? How do you feel about him accusing two black men of a false crime? This has nothing to do with white people. Again, I don't hope for him to serve time; I hope he gets the help he obviously needs. |

No reason to send someone to prison at a cost of $50k per year because they lied to police. Probation , a fine and restitution will be his only punishment. If he appeals this could cost him in excess of $100k out of his bank account. He should apologize and resume his career.
I've made bad judgment calls when I was young and Smollett can recover from this and continue his career. IMHO. YMMV. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
