(10,500 posts)I was in a non-profit, so we technically weren't making money for anyone, but it was stressful and unpleasant a lot of the time in a toxic work environment

(10,500 posts)FT since 87. The non-public ones were good, but the public ones had terrible morale, and weren't so liberal towards staff. That was always a big shock to new librarians.
I made an okay salary at my last one, but, overall, morale was low and management pretty awful. Awful schedules where you had to work 7 days in a row sometimes. The last job was the worst. Open too many hours without enough staff and too many services. Burnout and turnover and staff-on-staff aggression incidents. Lots of scary scenes with the public
I went out on disability. The administrators were making 6 figures.

(9,670 posts)Not that he's not right...but not all business owners take without giving; not all business owners demand a fake gratitude for the jobs they offer.
I'm speaking for myself, tbh. I own a small business, treat my employees right, and they in turn treat me right, which is not lost on our clients, who then bring more business, and the cycle continues. I make great money, but I share it with the people without whom I wouldn't have a business. Being an employee only sucks if the company or person you work for sucks.
