(448 posts)Who else is distancing from their unvaxxed rethug relatives for the holidays? Maybe I will grace mine with my presence next year

(3,080 posts)I wore an N95 but my husband didn't even wear a mask. She is the only one I will risk it with. She is 91 and won't vax due to my sister-in-law's influence of bullying and ignorance.

(2,000 posts)After months of agonizing, hoping her daughter and sil would get vaxed, she realized and decided she could not have them over. Her 22 year old grandson left their home and moved in with her earlier this year because his parents refused the vaccine. That's the bright spot. Her other daughter moved here from California in May, and friend was looking forward to having the whole family together. That daughter is vaccinated and came to stay with them for Christmas.
On the other hand, I was supposed to get together with several ladies for Christmas supper, all of us vaxed and boosted. It's been cancelled, 3 of them are waiting for PCR results; 2 due to exposure and the hostess due to symptoms. Several months ago the hostess had a small vaxed gathering, and 2 weeks later 2 attendees caught covid.
It's probably best to isolate or avoid gatherings this year, vaxed or not. I'm disappointed my gathering was cancelled, but relieved too.

(84,823 posts)But for Christmas were all in our separate corners, for safetys sake. Were all vaxxed and boosted, though, and still taking this very seriously, thank God! Better safe than sorry!
Ill take em alive and well and healthy for Christmas. And besides, theres always Zoom!

(7,510 posts)Saw one child's family yesterday for dinner.
Saw the others by traveling by car in mid-December. Traffic was pretty good and nice weather for the trip. Only exposures were a couple of stops for fast food takeout and bathroom breaks, plus a couple supermarket trips with the kids.

(448 posts)I have to be in a public setting, I am very careful before getting back into the car that I spray myself head to toe with disinfectant and wipe down the steering wheel and controls with an alcohol swab. It only takes one unvaxxed trumper to spread it to everyone else.

Last year, my goal was to live long enough to vote for Joe! This year I have my heart set on the mid-terms!
Enjoy!

All are vaccinated and doing okay. Not even worth the hassle of testing... Just isolating.
