It's a soup-from-scratch and homemade bread kind of day here in "Little Egypt".This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the General Discussion forum). All in all, a day for a warm cardigan and a good book.

2. Basically, southern Illinois----named for a "hoochy-koochy" dancer at the World's Fair
in Chicago over a century ago.

5. That sounds great. Mrs. A made that a few weeks ago---crusty cornbread baked in a cast iron
skillet. We like the lentils with finely chopped raw onion.

4. So what soup are you simmering?
Did you do the bread as well? By hand or warm from the bread machine and buttered up or with some apple butter--it's a simple meal I can sure get behind on chilly evenings. Our weather's chilly and damp too, so I'm looking forward to fixing some homemade Beef/Mushroom and Barley soup from scratch very soon or thaw the frozen Turkey and Wild Rice soup from the Thanksgiving repast...hmmmmm, good!

6. I do cook, but Mrs. A has made turkey with 17 different vegetables soup. It has a slug of
homemade wine in it.
She makes a crusty "artisan" bread in a cast iron Dutch oven that can't be beat. And, we, too, have our own homemade apple butter. Darn---now I'm hungry again! |

7. I made a killer
Beef stew. My fathers recipie. Its so good full of vegetables and lots of beef chunks.
Had it with a toasted slice of Dave's power seed bread. I put avocado on it along with some bacon. Dessert was 2 graham crackers with peanut butter, and 10 frozen cotton candy grapes from a couple of months ago. |

8. We Made Homemade Soup Today, Too
Used a small whole chicken to create stock, the shredded the meat later.
Carrots, celery, whole plum tomatoes & pearl onions. I added sherry (during the stock seeping), then salt, white & black pepper, garam masala & a little white wine vinegar. Amish egg noodles at the end. Mmmmmmmm! |
