My wife tested positive today and according to the CDC, I still can go to work

We are both vaxxed and boosted and as such the CDC states that I do not need to quarantine unless I become symptomatic. I don't think we'll ever be rid of this virus...

I know there is no exact time when a person switches from contagious to non contagious, but it seems they've gone too far the wrong way.

On the one hand they say you are contagious 2 days before symptoms. On there other hand they say it's ok to not quarantine unless you show symptoms. This will continue to spread unless we continue to shut down.

Yes, people and businesses are in a world of hurt, but infecting your employees and customers, and their families doesn't help.

It's frustrating, frightening.

Covid will continue to spread period. The CDC is transitioning to the eventual endemic phase of COVID that Omicron is leading us towards. The goal is to manage the healthcare system, not stop COVID, that ship sailed in late 2019.

I have had to enforce CDC rules since last fall - and vaccinated students were not requried to quarantine post-exposure.

There here are actually more vaccine-specific restrictions now.

To qualify as vaccinated (and not need to quarantine), your vaccinations must be up to date:

1. Any booster
2. Completion of the primary mRNA series less than 6 months ago
3. Completion of the J&J vaccine less than 2 months ago

Otherwise you are treated as not vaccinated and must stay home for 5 days after your LAST exposure, test on day 5, wear a mask for 5 more days, stay home if you develop symptoms or positive test.

So - you are correct because you have had a booster. BUT if you weren't boosted and your vaccinations were older than 2 or 6 months, depending on which kind, you would have to stay home for more than 5 days.

Here's a flow-chart. (It's from Ohio, but is based on the CDC guidelines.)

The big things that changed were what qualifies as vaccinated (and I've heard NO ONE talking about that - except for school, where I have to enforce the new rules starting Sunday), and shrinking the quarantine ** when required** from 10 days to 5.

So I wear a mask outside for the next 5 days and keep social distance from others.

Apparently someone in Clark County is a whiz with reading regs and flow charts (Ohio stole it from one of its sub-divisions).

And I like the vaccination-based distinctions.

I don't like the lack of testing on the end of isolation, but I can only insist on the CDC guidance.

it's everywhere and will always be with us like colds and flu. I'm just hoping new variants will keep getting milder

I hope she is ok. Also get tested. We need to protect ourselves now because the ball has rolled away.
