The city of Wichita said Thursday that one of its longtime firefighters has died from what’s thought to be complications associated with COVID-19. Joshua D. Bruggeman, a 17-year veteran of the Wichita Fire Department, died at 10:14 p.m. Wednesday at Wesley Medical Center, the city said. He was 46. Bruggeman was hired by the department on April 10, 2004, and was last assigned to the A shift at Station 8, 661 N. Elder, near Central. His death, which is considered to have occurred in the line of duty, is the first from COVID-19 within the Wichita Fire Department, the city said.

Especially if she was trying, but couldn't convince him to get vaccinated. And losing someone now is even harder than usual because of the added isolation during the omicron surge.

And I don't know if you were close to her husband, too, but if you were, please accept my condolences.

I assume that is about benefits. Hate to be a hard ass but if he was not vaccinated then how can they say he got it on the job?

Early on in this covid mess a friend, who is a PA, complained to me that if they get sick and/or died from covid it was not covered by Workers Comp. At that time she was not vaccinated and was not certain she would be. She did shortly get on the vaccine wagon.

Anyway, I asked her if there was a way anyone could prove they got covid on the job and that actually pissed her off because the answer is no.

it always worried me that he wasn't vaxxed especially since she and I were in the same room for 8 hours a day.

When I took short term disability until I was vaxxed last year when our district brought back students she took over even though she was not a teacher.

I love her dearly but I always lived in fear of covid knowing that they were not vaxxed.

I hope my friend gets the shot now, but it is not the time to ask her or pressure her about it.

She is busy planning a funeral and dealing with grief

But why would he put his family at risk when his job was to save lives? Senseless tragedy that could have easily been prevented

she is trying to make arrangements.

I pray she gets vaccinated and her girls after this but it is not a subject I am going to bring to her right now.

I am just going to love her through it

I feel bad for his family, of course, but at least he can't infect anyone else with his anti-vaxxer ignorance or with COVID-19. It's really tragic that these anti-vaxxers are killing themselves in record numbers through sheer ignorance while leaving their families to clean up the mess.

I saw your message that you said you were going to love your friend through this difficult time. You're a kind person. Thank you for doing that.

Why? How come cops and firemen who get COVID, can say it was in line of duty?

Any other profession where that sort of shit flies?

I hope he didn’t give it to his wife and kids.
