More than 1,000 Americans in positions of public trust acted as accomplices in Donald Trumps attempt to overturn the 2020 election result, participating in the violent insurrection at the US Capitol on 6 January or spreading the big lie that the vote count had been rigged.
The startling figure underlines the extent to which Trumps attempt to undermine the foundations of presidential legitimacy has metastasized across the US. Individuals who engaged in arguably the most serious attempt to subvert democracy since the civil war are now inveigling themselves into all levels of government, from Congress and state legislatures down to school boards and other local public bodies.
The finding that 1,011 individuals in the public realm played a role in election subversion around the 2020 presidential race comes from a new pro-democracy initiative that launched on Wednesday.

(81 posts)A good number of states have laws on the books regarding eligibility requirements for holding public office. The DOJ should look seriously at bringing felony charges where applicable against these folks, especially those attempting to take run for public office managing elections. Turn their attacks on voting against them and prohibit any felon from participating in elections, at all, until their rights have been duly restored. If you aren't eligible to vote you can't count, observe, electioneer or take part in recounts/audits whether they be public or private. I'm sure this would only affect a few folks like Tina Peters but it may serve as a deterrent for general screwery in upcoming elections.

(15,325 posts)The reach of this plot is global.
Which is why the J6 hearings MUST be held public & on prime time.
That info then becomes truth for all to see & quashes whatever spin is blasted thru media.
The truth is indisputable.

(15,533 posts)Very interesting and I've forwarded it on.
I already knew that my rep was one of those who voted not to certify the election. It was her first vote in Congress after being a newly elected (ensconced by the local GOP mafia), no-experience in office, rep. I want her gone!

(15,325 posts)Why hold Garland responsible for what the 1011+ orchestrated? OR ELSE!
Because its ALL HIS FAULT?
wtfever.
Backasswards thought.
His address will be informative but if anyone is holding him responsible to fix this massive shithole in record time, OR ELSE!, that makes zero sense at all & a seriously flawed case of blaming the messenger.
He is puulling it apart & must do so from a legal point rather than a point of mob mentality vigilantism.

(86,330 posts)I can assure you that a minimum of 65% of all elected officeholders in the state of Montana can be included on that list.
And there were 7 Montana citizens who were there on Jan 6.
