Penn Law rebukes professor who said U.S. would be 'better off with fewer Asians'

The dean of the University of Pennsylvania Law School criticized comments by a professor at the school as "thoroughly anti-intellectual and racist" for suggesting that the United States is “better off with fewer Asians and less Asian immigration.”

The dean, Theodore Rugers, was responding to comments made by Amy Wax, a white law professor, in an interview last month.

“Once again, Amy Wax has, through her thoroughly anti-intellectual and racist comments denigrating Asian immigrants, underscored a fundamental tension around harmful speech at American universities,” Rugers wrote in a statement.

“Like all racist generalizations, Wax’s recent comments inflict harm by perpetuating stereotypes and placing differential burdens on Asian students, faculty, and staff to carry the weight of this vitriol and bias.”

No punishment has been announced.

UPenn is private and not bound by the First Amendment. They're not constitutionally required to refrain from punishing Amy Wax. How about tenure and contract? I'd want to read the docs to determine if they prohibit discipline for super-racist stuff./1

/2 If the tenure system and/or contract lay out a process for discipline, then that process should be followed. That's the point of tenure and contracts. If you conclude that they should allow discipline for being super-racist, but don't, then take steps to change them.

Dear Rugers needs to take whatever action he can to make this the last time she makes racist remarks while employed as a Law Professor at UP.
Wax, who the article says is Jewish, says that Asians are becoming the new Jews, and also warned of the danger of dominance of an Asian elite in this country.

It's absolutely ridiculous for her to continue in her position after this.

Does she have an ultimate answer for the problem of too many Asians in the United States? A final solution, maybe? Her good friend Bob Boudelang defended Wax: "Amy's not a Nazi, so stop saying that!"
