Transmission levels in Genesee County are more than eight times greater than the "high" threshold. I have seen more people back to wearing masks but there are still far too many unmasked.
I decided to postpone an appointment with my dental hygienist. My pantry is stocked for me and the kittens so after a shopping trip tomorrow to buy more food for the ferals, I'm going back to strictly limit any outings.
Maybe I'll start planning this year's veg garden. Just a couple more months and I'll be buying seeds.

(9,442 posts)I call it the Temple of Doom. There are some store name products that like though and can't get elsewhere so it's quick trips in and out. When I was walking through the parking lot towards the store I saw a car was parked in one of the spaces for grocery pickup. The hatch was up and the store employee was loading the groceries in. He wasn't wearing a mask. So while the customer was sitting in the car this guy is breathing whatever germs he may have into her car.

(205,064 posts)The supermarket I normally stop at weekly offers it and another close by market offered it even before the pandemic. I've never tried it, but I know a girl who used it even before Covid.

(57,073 posts)Very disappointed in Aldi. They use Instacart "for a very small [unspecified] fee." But I'd read previously that Instacart charges 30% more than the cost of the food order! Yikes!
I've not been successful in finding the actual fee. Aldi does not have any way to contact stores.
If you or anyone else knows what Aldi's Instacart fee is, pls share?
Tyia!

(26,256 posts)I've got help with that one. I can still lift and carry a 40lb bag of water softener salt down to the basement and into the barrel but I'm not going to risk trying to best that.
I ALWAYS do my shopping as early in the morning as possible so there are very few others in the store. And, most of them are 'vintage' people, like me so they tend to wear masks more often. I even write out my shopping list in the order that I'll find things in the store. Fortunately, I do most of my shopping at Aldi. It's small and I can be in and out again, usually in about 15 minutes, or less. One of the clerks once teased me that I probably know their product placement better than they do!

(26,256 posts)No more bare feet for me! And now Gryff is learning bad behaviors from Madoc. Madoc's pounces aren't bad but Gryff is one solid, muscular teen age kitten. When he wants to snuggle, he just bulldozes what ever is on my lap and settles in.
Gryff sounds like my Pittie!
Not a breed I ever would have chosen, but he showed up here a few yrs ago, apparently dumped on a nearby highway.
Doesn't even notice when he breajs a window or coffee table with his bowling ball head.
He is such a good boy, though.

(57,073 posts)I've been in my home since well before Xmas, with only 1 short trip to sr center to pick up art supplies (outside!) For zoom art class.
So on the zoom class, there were 6 people, all elderly, present, ONE wearing a "mask" - a cloth mask!
I just wanted to yell, "Do you people not read?"
I am coming close to needing to go to grocery... I've been in 3M N95s for 2 yrs when around others, but still extremely anxious about going to the store.
Stay safe! 😷

(5,164 posts)Why would they need a mask for the zoom class though? I am confused. That is cool a zoom art class, I was doing mostly asynchronous but now may be in person. I am really regretting that now.
I have ordered n95 now.
I think you should be ok with a real n95. I was in hospitals with my father numerous times for hours on end, on one for two weeks on a ward with covid patients across the hall they said but I saw one in the next room who was prone, before omicron though, and with kn95 and was ok. Mostly post vax etc.
Maybe just order delivery until this gets better to be safe.

(57,073 posts)Thx for encouragement. When research on how covid was tranmitted was in the news, researchers said we have receptor cells in our eyes as well as nose.
I wear glasses, but they obviously are not sealed. Maybe I will wear sealed safety glasses over regular glasses.
I guess it will come to a point where I need to restock meat, dairy, & produce as well as some canned & frozen foods.

(5,164 posts)Order take out etc. dont go to the in person classes now for sure. For the first half I also wore real ski type fire goggles and gloves everywhere. People laughed at me but I was not going to get this again. I am a lh and it took my father from me but it took a year. Somehow I did not fully get it from him again after the hospital infected him. Maybe it is time for the goggles again, but not to teach. It is very hard to wear glasses under them, but that was prevax too. Some sort of shield sounds good.
You can get rx safety glasses, maybe I should but I dont think they are completely sealed

(57,073 posts)I've done that with pet food from chewy & it's a great service!
Unfortunately, human food delivery costs approx 30% more.
I was disappointed to learn that Aldi uses Instacart for curbside pickup.
Maybe I'll try Walmart pickup at curb.
So sorry to hear about your dad. 😢
Stay safe!

(5,164 posts)Just do the curbside then, it is safer. Some supermarkets have their own delivery and dont actually charge more for the food. I ordered from stopnshop, wholefoods and shoprite directly, wholefoods was through amazon and for a certain amount shipping was free. I had to use instacart at the beginning because it was the only way to get a delivery at first. They do increase the prices sadly.

(57,073 posts)I'll do some looking online abput delivery services.
Have you considered contacting a hospice for virtual breravement therapy to help you resolve your grief?
No, the only thing that will give me any measure of peace will be real accountability of the people involved, the hospital and so on. As well as people in this gov and others who caused all of this.
There is no counselor etc. who would ever get what we have been through, ever. Give me accountability for this crime and the murder of my father.
I hope you can get a cheaper delivery 😀

(13,488 posts)Get a good mask and pare back activities. We made it through the holidays here in NYC without getting sick. (We essentially spent Xmas with our parents and daughter.) Cancelled a trip to New England for NYE.
It stinks, but here in NYC we seem to have peaked. (Fingers crossed bc it could just be an anomaly in testing.)
Honestly, I've felt a little bit like that last woman standing in a horror movie. Hiding in a closet in a dark room waiting to be offed.
BUT... so many of our friends and family have gotten this in the last few weeks, and those that were boosted truly didn't suffer very much at all. Headaches, tired, scratchy throat. Around 3-5 days feeling bad. (With rapid testing most have been contagious until about day 9 though. If you have access to rapids, test before you come out of isolation!)

(15,805 posts)Ive switched over, again. I was doing brief, early-morning grocery shopping but Im back to curbside pickup. Cat food has been in short supply locally but I was able to order in some via Amazon. Ill have to do an instacart order for the pups food, or switch them over to a different brand.

(26,256 posts)I actually haven't had much trouble finding that. In fact, every time I see the pate, I buy another carton. It's the big cans of pate I buy for the ferals that's hard to find. Next time I do, I'm going to super stock up.

(15,805 posts)My one kitty has decided her favorite is salmon pate, which was remarkably hard to find locally for a bit.
On the seeds- Ive already started ordering. January is when many seed companies start shipping their new seed, so I always get my orders in this month. Happy planning!

(50,249 posts)I live on the border of NH/VT and on one side, Sane-istan (VT), most of the people wear masks and take precautions. Here on the other side, you might go into the local hardware store and see no masks. I've been having some hip problems and suspect the one that hasn't been replaced is going south, but I'm determined to wait until the current variant surge passes before seeing the orthopedic doctor even though he's in Vermont. I want nothing to do with hospitals or groups of people.

(36,291 posts)They have patients there in really bad shape from COVID that need to be at other, bigger, better equipped hospitals for proper care but can't because they won't take anymore patients.
