Thank you, AG Garland.

Adhering to the department’s long-standing norms is essential to our work in defending our democracy, particularly at a time when we are confronting a rise in violence and unlawful threats of violence in our shared public spaces and directed at those who serve the public.

We have all seen that Americans who serve and interact with the public at every level — many of whom make our democracy work every day — have been unlawfully targeted with threats of violence and actual violence.

Across the country, election officials and election workers; airline flight crews; school personnel; journalists; local elected officials; U.S. Senators and Representatives; and judges, prosecutors, and police officers have been threatened and/or attacked.

These are our fellow citizens — who administer our elections, ensure our safe travel, teach our children, report the news, represent their constituents, and keep our communities safe.

https://www.justice.gov/opa/speech/attorney-general-merrick-b-garland-delivers-remarks-first-anniversary-attack-capitol

The attacks on our capitol were by partisan players yet it is a fact that they went after their own as well. Shouts rang out "Hang Mike Pence". They had the malice aforethought to bring in the lumber to build a guillotine.

The attacks as stated above, teachers, police, judges, election officials and airline attendants are not all Democrats. They terroists don't care what party they stand for, they will all be attacked and at times killed.

Never once did AJ Garland say "both sides do it". Never once.

If you don't believe me, read the entire transcript.

He said far more than I expected. I was pleased. He really went into the fact that the ongoing investigation reaches far deeper than that day. It has to do with the ongoing violence that the GOP/TFG incite everyday with their bullshit rhetoric. They love sowing division.

so far 4 people have been arrested.

Rachel Maddow nailed Garland's speech tonight. She is fearful that Garland is just talking about upper level people who were involved in the physical attack on our Capitol. Is Merrick Garland going to investigate the attack on our democracy by Trump trying to get election officials to overturn the results of elections, Rachel said, she doesn't know.

Was Garland speaking about going to the top of the people behind the planning of the physical attack on our Capitol? Is Garland only investigating 1/6? Dan Goldman was on Rachel later on and he said he didn't know for sure if Garland was talking about the attack on our democracy, the attempt to change the results of our election. Goldman said he is going to believe that Garland is talking about both cases. Goldman did say that it's not a good idea for DOJ to set aside an investigation (attack on our democracy/election) because memories fade, evidence gets destroyed, people get their stories straight. In Garland Goldman trusts.

This investigation is huge and complex. It goes way beyond 1/6. It was what lead up to it and what has happened since. So many players to investigate.

Not having to do with anything Bidden did....just that TFG left the White House and took his Slovanian sex worker with him. So that alone makes us a better democracy then we were on Jan 6.

Is our democracy in better shape the day after president Biden took office? President Biden has made our country a much better place but is our fragile democracy in a better place?

A guest was on Joy Reid tonight who compared our democracy with the human body. He said our body (democracy) has a broken leg, a broken arm, clogged arteries, infected gall bladder, and we are treating it with Tylenol.

If Mike Pence had not certified the electors from several states, Donald Trump may still be our president. The GQP has learned from its first coup attempt, people like Brad Raffensperger are being replaced by someone who believes in the Big Lie, and so are other election officials. The next coup will happen at the local and state level and we are still taking Tylenol. I listened to Chuck Schumer tonight say he is forced to vote on the voter protection bills because time is so short there won't be time to undo the voter discrimination/suppression laws already passed.

Our democracy is in worse shape.

Again the answer is yes. We have, not just Joe Biden, we have incredibly talented people in place, Democrats.

This ain't Tylenol.

https://www.newsweek.com/achievements-joe-biden-2021-no-one-talking-about-jobs-pay-economy-climate-1662595

Nor is this:

Vaccines: "490 million shots in arms ... At this time last year: less than 1% of Americans were fully vaccinated. Today: More than 71% of American adults are fully vaccinated."

First shot: "At the start of the year: just one-third of adults were eager to get vaccinated. Today, 85% of adults have had their first shot."

snip

Jobs: "The economy added nearly six million jobs this year — the most of any first-year president in history. When POTUS took office, ... unemployment was 6.3%. Today it's 4.2%."

"The average number of Americans filing for unemployment over the last four weeks is at its lowest level since 1969. When POTUS took office, over 18 million were receiving unemployment benefits. Today, only 2 million are."

Perhaps Joy's guest, whoever they are, should read up on Joe Biden.

No, we are not in worse shape than we were with DT. We are in better hands and we sure as hell better get out and vote in 2022. If my 95 year old mother can vote, we all can. No excuses.

The bulk of his point is that the violence was not directed just towards Dems. But it's also true that not all of the anger, threats, and acts of violence have come from members of a single party or ideology.

Some have been told that their offices would be bombed. Some have been told that they would be murdered, and precisely how — that they would be hanged; that they would be beheaded.

Police officers, who put their lives on the line every day to serve our communities, have been targeted with extraordinary levels of violence.

Flight crews have been assaulted. Journalists have been targeted. School personnel and their families have been threatened.

A member of Congress was threatened in a gruesome voicemail that asked if she had ever seen what a 50-caliber shell does to a human head. Another member of Congress — an Iraq War veteran and Purple Heart recipient — received threats that left her “terrified for [her] family.”

And in 2020, a federal judge in New Jersey was targeted by someone who had appeared before her in court. That person compiled information about where the judge and her family lived and went to church. That person found the judge’s home, shot and killed her son, and injured her husband.

These acts and threats of violence are not associated with any one set of partisan or ideological views.
