Not just the left and center Democrats, but there are still some RWers and Independents who are not extremist, who deplore Trump and Trumpism, and are horrified by Jan 6.

The way to unite the country is not to reach out to the extremists who want to destroy it and try to persuade them to change. The way to unite us and to preserve democracy is to condemn the actions of those who would destroy it and unite the rest of us against them.

national support for holding the insurrectionists accountable, and are sending a clear and unwavering message that they are acting on doing just that. They have our backs because so many have had theirs and clearly told them so.

Use all of 2021 to accumulate as much evidence as they could. Keep mum about the status.

New Year 2022: inform the public, full speed ahead, take no prisoners (except the ones who desecrated our nation).

I no longer fear that the DOJ isn't taking this seriously or that they will only be going after the citizens and not the ringleaders. We're past that now and it's quite encouraging.

is not going to help us if their votes don't count.

AG Garland knows that. That's why he spent as much time as he did speaking about voting rights.

The right will not sit still for harsh messaging?
Probably correct. If they only get scolded, they will be all up in arms, oh so angry......but

If the right is actually held accountable like prosecuting Trump or his legions, they will sit still for it. One thing bullyies do is Not question authority. They are cowards and meek around authority.

Yeah, I really feel like the overwhelming public support for holding insurrectionists accountable that we've seen, read and heard everywhere but far-right wing outlets and enclaves over the past 12 months provided the urging and girding behind what we are seeing today and from Garland yesterday. Let's give credit fairly and where due.

No matter what. The Repugs are going to cheat at the election board level and if they control the House will do all sorts of nonsense with sets of electors.

Biden has to stay no matter what, challenge everything in the courts, do not concede. No other option will result in American democracy surviving.

for having the gall not to discern who on Jan 6 came to demonstrate peacefully and who came to unleash the kraken. Well excuuuuse us, Karl, for not sorting out all those fine Brooks Brothers protesters from the guys in flak jackets. There was, um, a massive violent melee under way and it was difficult to keep track.

it either. I will stand in this breach. I will defend this nation, and I'll allow no one to place a dagger at the throat of democracy. We will make sure the will of the people is heard, that the ballot prevails, not violence – that authority of this nation will always be peacefully transferred. I believe the power of the presidency and the purpose is to unite this nation, not divide it – to lift us up, not tear us apart. It’s about us, not about me.

Deep in the heart of America burns a flame lit almost 250 years ago of liberty, freedom and equality. This is not a land of kings or dictators or autocrats. We're a nation of laws, of order, not chaos, of peace, not violence. Here in America, the people rule through the ballot, and their will prevails. So let us remember together: We're one nation, under God, indivisible, that today, tomorrow and forever at our best, we are the United States of America."

42. Trump will be charged. The administration has set things up perfectly
Fri Jan 7, 2022, 09:03 AM

Garland goes on TV and states point-blank that DOJ is just getting started, that no one at any level will be exempt from consequences. Then Biden gives his tour de force speech yesterday aimed directly at TFG.

To me, the White House is signaling to the American public that Trump will face charges, despite all the skepticism from the media on that score.

I get it, it's easy to be pessimistic, and until the Garland-Biden sequence of speeches I had more doubts than convictions that Trump would ever be held accountable. But I can't shake the feeling this morning that Biden was setting the stage for just that eventuality. Is there any other way to interpret events of the past couple of days?
