Everybody but the dentist either has COVID or had close contact. Not sure how he didn't have a close contact designation.
Everybody is vaxxed and boosted. But, they think they had a symptomatic patient come in insisting he only had a cold. They're not sure, but pretty convinced.
I think they should have told the patient to go home.
It's a small office so we're only talking 5 people.
Why am I sure this symptomatic patient was one of the tools I see at the supermarket, unmasked?

This is the biggest emergency in our history but you would not know it.

Tom Wolf is not the only Governor that's getting shut down on this, I'm sure.

If our side is not on MSNBC and elsewhere TONIGHT almost yelling, accidentally but on purpose letting an F word fly or something, if they dont make news about how URGENT a situation we are in, it is all lost.

(7,853 posts)...but when this recent COVID wave hit, I just went ahead and canceled it. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I figure I will try to reschedule it for later this month or early next month; the experts are saying that we should be on the downside of this recent surge by that time.

(64,988 posts)I haven't been for a checkup since February 2020. Every time I think to schedule something, it flares up again.
I did go in for a crown replacement a couple months after I got vaxxed. But, that was a sort of emergency.
Fortunately, I have very healthy teeth, aside from those filling from when I was 12 or 13.
Could use a good cleaning, though.
I'll wait. Again.

(15,805 posts)The vet is sick. Id already committed to paying an extra $20 for curbside drop off/pick up for pup, as I didnt want to be in a small room with anyone that Im not sharing space with on a day to day basis already.
But pup can wait. Ive rescheduled for next week but I doubt we will have the appointment. I may opt to grab the vaccine curbside at the local farm store and administer myself.

(64,988 posts)Each parking spot has a letter & the office phone number on a sign.
You call when getting there, they come out and get Beastie.
Vet calls to your car to fill you in, and tell you what they did or is needed.
They bring back out, then the office calls so you can pay with credit or debit card!
I went first appointment one day & it was a light day, so they let me come in, unless someone else showed up. When they were done, I still had to take doggie out to the car and wait for the call to pay the bill.

(27 posts)Don't have a pet so I don't think of such things but my friend who has an old dog was cautioned by her doctor that if she had been exposed to covid she should be careful not to get too close to her dog because they are susceptible to covid. Anybody heard of that?

(3,603 posts)It is one that I can put off, and I think I will. I'll call them tomorrow. I have lupus, and my mom has diabetes (she lives with me).
We are vaxxed and boosted, but I can't risk bringing it home, or getting it myself.
We have been so careful. I only go grocery shopping once a month. Yes, we are very weary of it all, but we also don't want to end up a statistic.

(28,075 posts)before things really picked up again, but I would not hesitate to go in now if I had to.
Dental offices have long been very conscious about infection control (more so even than some doctors' offices) and Covid protocols weren't all that different from what they have been doing.
It is made clear at my dentist's that all the staff is fully vaxxed, boosted, and always masked. I don't know if they ask patients about their vaccination status because I did volunteer mine before anyone could ask. Patients are expected to keep their masks on until we're told they can come off when the work is about to begin.
Though, my hygienist told me they have a patient who refuses to wear a mask. He's one the nuts who thinks because he was "made in the image of God" it is sinful for him to cover his face. (No sure how he copes when we have a -20 windchill). They considered dropping him as a patient but apparently this guy has mentioned in the past about other lawsuits he's been involved in so their is some hesitation to provoke him. The dentist did consult a lawyer who warned him if does drop him the practice could get hit with a lawsuit for religious discrimination. The lawyer said the dentist would probably win the suit but only after dropping a bundle on legal fees and losing time away from the office.
So, "out of an abundance of caution" they schedule no appointments for an hour before and an hour after this guy's visits. They refuse to run the risk of any other patient coming into contact with him & do extra cleaning after he leaves. Fortunately, he has only needed twice a year cleanings. The staff has been instructed to be professional, but not necessarily friendly, with him. They all hope he'll find another dentist.

(13,485 posts)I would tell a patient do not come in if you have a cold any time of year. A time or two I didnt go to a doctors appointment because of colds.
Same with volunteering at a museum. They asked us not to come in if we had colds because they had small staff at the time and didnt want to take a chance that someone would get sick.

(34,059 posts)I had to cancel screening appointments for an aggressive cancer because I had the creepy crud before Christmas. If that has to be delayed for symptoms consistent with a cold, so does dentalwork. Selfish jerk.

(35,648 posts)Regarding canceled teeth cleaning appointments, for the short term you can use a tartar removal mouthwash and toothpaste until the pandemic subsides.
I became interested in them when given a kit by my dental hygienist. With that one, you rinse your mouth and the tartar shows up as red for a short time. Then you know where you're not flossing well enough. But you can also test it by using the mouthwash, flossing, and then checking again. After a few weeks of using the mouthwash, I learned where I needed to up my game.
Use "tartar removal mouthwash" at Amazon to look such products over.
