Been there, it's scary. Often that comes from driver error, though not always.
The truth is, the weight of the semi helps it stay on the road, especially packed snow, loose snow is good as long as there isn't an icy base under it. Been there, done that too.

Whenever I see videos of such things, I am always grateful that I have never been caught in any such thing. Lucky me.

They do it so infrequently it doesn't occur to them to change their driving habits until it's too late. Slowing waaaay doooown is the first step, leaving more space between cars, and if you start sliding steer your car into the direction you're sliding, and gently pump your brakes. Most people forget these things, and once the first accident happens it's nothing but chain reactions after that.

We northerners are born with this information written into our DNA, and there are still plenty of fender benders during the first snow of the season. After that people catch on and slow down. There are still the usual cowboys who think everyone else are pokey losers, and they insist on speeding. They usually have Trump stickers on their trucks, and you'll see them in the ditch two miles down the road.

Of jacked up Bubba trucks in that mess. The good thing is there will be a few less oversized confederate and Trump flags billowing up and down the highway

They drive on when they should not. I wait. Later, once the snow has been cleared, I go again. It's pretty simple, really. If I'm supposed to be somewhere, I call and let anyone expecting me know that I won't be there. Also simple.
