(14,061 posts)Very well done movie, because of Sidney Poitier.
It seems that the older one gets, the more cruel these losses feel.

Still don't understand your post. Are you saying he was responsible for her death? Why post that here!

(51,569 posts)Did you know that the actress who played the daughter wad Katherine Hepburn's niece? The actress who played Poitier's mother was in The Heat Of The Night too. Everything seems to overlap in some way or another.
My DVR is full of movies and tv shows which include Betty White, Peter Bogdanovich and Sidney Poitier. 2022 isn't starting out too well as far as our classic actors go.

(14,818 posts)I stumbled on one of his earliest by accident!
While I don't think I saw The Defiant Ones ('58) this one
was eight years earlier called "No Way Out".
I pop in fairly near the start. There's this Black guy, and, ah, he's a doctor...in a prison hospital?! Hmmm.... that voice, Hmmm... cheekbones...
...Is that... Poitier? Good Lord... How young is he?! 😄
23! No wonder I didn't recognize him at first.
Till then the earliest I'd seen (all on TV) was "Lillies", but
I'd seen Sir, Heat, and Dinner before that.
Anyway he has to deal with a pair of racists white brothers. Good film. He starts to get more roles right after.

(204,818 posts)I'm hoping that TCM or another cable will take the opportunity to show a marathon of his films. I've seen several, but not all of them.

Grew up with Harry Belafonte's music. Kingston Trio....we always had music playing at dinner

(1,760 posts)Such a sweet movie, unfortunately still topical. Watching true life couple Hepburn and Tracy do their last movie, with tears in their eyes. Poitier, perfection as always.
We had a double feature with "heat of the night." Poitier, bravely facing and illuminating the stupidity and injustice of racism.
I don't know how we can live with all the wonderful people we are losing. Sigh.
