Sinead O'Connor's 17-year-old son found dead after going missing: 'Please be at peace'

https://abc7.com/sinead-oconnor-son-dead-missing/11442107/

Sinead O'Connor's 17-year-old son has died, the singer's management company confirmed to CNN on Saturday.

On Friday, a Garda spokesman told the Irish Mirror that a body had been recovered and that police were standing down on a missing-person report for Shane O'Connor.

The "Nothing compares 2U" musician shared a sequence of brief statements on her unverified Twitter account saying her son "decided to end his earthly struggle" and urged others not to do the same.

"My beautiful son, Nevi'im Nesta Ali Shane O'Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace," O'Connor tweeted.

17-year-old Shane O'Connor apparently was on suicide watch in an Irish hospital just one day before he took his own life, but someone was able to leave. Sinead wrote the day before Shane's body was found, "Like, how has a seventeen-year-old traumatised young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hospital's Lynn Ward been able to go missing???"

I hope she gets through it.
Our next door neighbor's son killed himself at around age 25.
She has not been the same since, and that was over 10 years ago.

He was fragile afterwards. If I lost a child, I probably would be the same.

I lost an old college friend to suicide last year. Her teenage son had committed suicide a few years before. She just couldn't recover from that, and a few years later, she followed.

I don't judge, I just grieve for all the people who are in so much pain that seems the only way to find relief. And for the loved ones they leave behind.

He was gay and being gay at that time was not accepted by most of society. When I first heard the news I pounded my fist into the wall with the thought going thru my mind. When you are dead you are dead forever.

I lost two good friends to suicide a couple years ago. They died 6 months apart. One of them suffered from depression but I didn't know it. After a breakup with his girlfriend he hung himself. My other friend had been in an auto accident years ago and was left wheelchair bound. He also suffered from chronic pain the doctors could never figure out the cause of. Or so they said. He was poor and was on disability. I'm convinced they didn't do enough testing on him. Anyway one day he decided he couldn't take the pain anymore and wheeled himself down to the river front to watch the sunrise and then he shot himself. It was heartbreaking and tragic. Myself and others kept wondering if there was something we could have done. Ironically I had seen both my friends a week before their suicides and they seemed in good spirits. They talked about the future and what they were looking forward to. I had no idea they were going to end their lives.
As hard as it was to lose my two friends, I can't imagine losing a son, daughter or parent to suicide. That would have to be the worst of all.

She has suffered from depression most of her life as well and has even attempted suicide herself. I can't imagine what she must be going through.

RIP Shane.
