Since 40% more of the working age population is dying, https://www.thecentersquare.com/indiana/indiana-life-insurance-ceo-says-deaths-are-up-40-among-people-ages-18-64/article_71473b12-6b1e-11ec-8641-5b2c06725e2c.html , the evidence is strong that Covid is even worse than that 40% lists.
First off, traffic is down and due to extra precautions, other diseases are likely to be down. The odds are good that a lot of people who were close to death and would have died anyway, also got covid and died.
Some deaths are likely to be related to covid. Long hauler suicides, people avoiding hospitals, people who's doctors have less time and focus due to their doctor's life being complicated by covid. Stupid people poisoning themselves and their children because Trump wanted stock in junk medical sales to go up. That sort of thing.
Suicides because of general public depression caused by Fox News. Suicides because someone woke up rational and realized they spread the disease that killed their loved ones.
Lack of energy and awareness due to covid may be causing a lot of the horrible driving and even the road rage we see.
It is hard to even say, some of these things directly relate to covid and mean it's worse than 40%. Others relate to the environment of Republican hate combined with covid in the background and that might mean the actual disease deaths are less than 40%.
My own guess is that ten percent more could be added to the covid deaths. My guess is that one in three deaths right now are caused by covid.
Sad when you consider, what could happen if we all carefully planned a stockup. If we scheduled a week and isolated. If we followed up with tracking outbreaks and isolating them. We could get rid of this in a month. Gone. All gone. But we can't have nice things in America, because of conservatives.

(2,778 posts)40 % higher in a low death cohort. But of note is the while small death rate is 18-64 ages is 40% above long-term average & a new record.
65 & up has been 3/4 of total COVID deaths. Total death rate is up 18%. This is still a R created crisis 150,000 or more new kids who lost one or more primary caregivers.
