Two independent but related investigative tracks leading to a merging of indictments on a single bombshell Indictment Day, thats ok. Shock and Awe.
Believe history will record what is happening now, both publicly known, and privately unknown, as the most complex criminal investigations in history. And the most rapid for the given complexity.
On the this mob prosecution ladder over 700 small fry criminally charged to date, over 100 convicted. From a single event, but with many tentacles in the planning and deliberation
the investigative manpower needed is mind boggling for just that, but more rungs, higher up. As AG Garland said.
The legal and investigative brainpower needed to now move up that ladder to the highest rungs
including the spousal rung of a senior scotus justice apparently
has to be exponentially higher.
Just my personal reading of the tea leaves to date.

(21,234 posts)Investigative reporters have uncovered tons of evidence. The select committee with limited power and resources has uncovered tons of evidence. DOJ has a lot more clout and manpower.
Half of the people convicted do no jail time. People who were a part of obstructing the official proceedings of Congress are being charged with, entering or remaining in a restricted federal building, parading, demonstrating, picketing in the Capitol.
The people who have gone to jail are separated into their own area where they can shoot the breeze and plan the next event.

Investigative reporters have no professional interest or responsibility in building the case to the level that woul allow the courts to authorize a grand jury, or presenting evidence that will yield indictments, or proving their case in court beyond reasonable doubt, or see through a conviction to fit the crime.
The threshold for investigative reporters is whether their evidence is "fit to print", as determined by their media outlets. Other than bruised egos and, in exceptional cases, losing their jobs, they suffer no consequences for being wrong.

(11,269 posts)Against the upper rung people, in fact Adam Schiff said that just last Friday.
The House Committee is doing its best with limited tools but DOJ has every tool needed to get to the bottom (or top in this case) but does nothing.
Garland's presser was just to take some heat off, and it worked .

(7,839 posts)so could take heat off him for something he is not doing.
My perception is simply if he wasnt investigating would have said so.

(11,269 posts)you're James Fucking Comey, then you announce an investigation against Clinton and say nothing about the investigation into Trump.
Do you really think this DOJ is any different, it's always protecting Pukes.

(11,269 posts)There's starting to be a growing chorus of former DOJ officials that are saying there's no evidence of a DOJ investigation of those responsible for Jan 6.
