The radical right, in their attempt to undermine the country, will next attempt to characterize democracy as something bad. They'll equate it with communism and socialism. They will start to say that we were never intended to be a democracy, but it was the intent that this country be ruled as a representative republic under the control of "certain patriots". They're already trying with this whole "Christian Nation" crap.

One of them posted recently trying to make the argument that the US population has now grown too large for democracy to work anymore.
So he heard it from someone pundit for sure. The guys on this site aren't smart enough to think on their own.

(1,783 posts)I forget who said it and where, but it's been making the rounds and was reported here at DU in the last couple of weeks (or less). If I had to guess where it came from, I would bet on the "neo-reactionary" morons at American Greatness Project--a West Coast wingnut-welfare outfit--or something similar.

(53,031 posts)For a few years now they've talked about how the US is a "republic," not a democracy. That distinction, while oxymoronic, reveals their efforts to undermine electoral rule. Now, their voting and election changes throughout the country have brought that to fruition.
