Just how dangerous are space heaters? Especially the ones used by growers?

In light of all the warnings regarding space heaters because of the last fire tragedy, I thought I would share with you what I discovered when I toyed with the idea of wintering my plants on the porch under a greenhouse tent, warmed by a space heater.

The interest in space heaters is a real thing, especially these days when marijuana usage is getting decriminalized.* People are trying to do the right thing, but I have to say, there isn't one review on garden space heaters that convinced me in taking the leap and purchasing one. They all had at least one review that warned of overheating problems.

I'm just wondering if the authorities should look into those space heaters, since there may be an increase in indoor gardening these days? And seriously, there is no way to monitor them 24/7.

*Disclaimer: I'm using them for orchids and winter sensitive bonsai's. No, really!

The tent will stay warmer than normal room temp because of the lights (LED lights for plants still throw off heat).

Because, bringing them into the house exposes us to the critters that live inside their pots. In Florida, that could be frogs, lizards or grotesque six inch centipedes.

A tent would keep them sealed up. The rest can crawl over Diatomaceous earth that I spread on to surface of the soil. Finally, sprinkling mosquito bits with their bacteria kills fungus gnats that try to inhabit the soil.
