I knew him years ago when we were both in the Gaming Hobby Business decades ago. A couple of states away from each other, but stayed in touch
and helped each other as we could. Met up at trade shows and alike.
Fellow was from the Mid-South and conservative in his politics. I'm sure he supported Trump. He was a genial type, always nice, a bit of a clown, an organizer of his hobby group, a musician and a decent sort.
Reading the FB post of one of his local friends I will quote.....
" RIP XXXXXXX. He died today of complications from pneumonia brought on by Covid. He was not down, for whatever reason with the idea of getting vaccinated or wearing a mask, etc. He seemed to think that it (Covid) wasn't anything to worry about.
He wound up spending the last weeks of his life in the hospital on a ventilator-- and not coming out. A terrible thing. XXXXXX felt that Covid wasn't anything to worry about. I know a few other folks out there that feel the same way he did. If you are one of those folks, please reconsider."
So essentially this guy I knew ended up committing suicide leaving behind a grieving family and friends because it wasn't anything to worry about.........

Take good care of yourself.

(38,958 posts)I'm not really grieving as much as baffled by someone who was so talented and smart would be making such stupid choices.
Thankfully my dearest friend who has contracted Covid with pneumonia seems to be doing better. Thankfully she is vaccinated, boosted and faithfully wears a mask.

All we can do is try. No sense blaming yourself for their choice.

A tragic waste of human life made even worse when it is someone you know. I'm sorry.

(14,012 posts)A lot of decent people are dying, and that's worth remembering.
Thanks.
I know that he and i disagreed on politics. We shared a mutual hobby and some times in the past, but he really was a decent fellow as I knew him anyway.
Just confusing to know that he couldn't take this seriously enough to do everything he could to protect himself and those about him.

I'll miss them when they're gone.

(38,958 posts)Very kind of you. I have to admit we really were not all that close so it isn't much of a personal loss to me, just as mentioned above the whole thing is baffling.
Hope that your family weather's the storm without any ill affects.
