Are you as discouraged as I am?

I watch the Republicans' solidarity and then see nothing but confusion in my Party. It appears that we are self-destructive and unable to provide a solid front. History may not be kind to the Republicans for their obstruction and opposition to voting rights, but I don't live ten, fifty or a hundred years from now, but now. The reality is that the Republican Party has been taken over by fascists and there isn't a damn thing that we can do about it. Where is the nation headed when every Republican Senator is voting against the right to cast a vote and even legislation that provides them with the right to throw out your vote and they are being supported by some of our own party members in our nation that supposed to be the prime example of a democracy?

Is this the way it ends? Is this how nations die? I don't know; but I don't see a rosy future at the present time. My parents were solid FDR Democrats and very involved in party politics their entire lives. When Eisenhower was elected they sent congratulatory telegrams to the White House. I never heard any derogatory comments about the president in my home or among any our acquaintances. They may have disagreed with some policies, but they were never vindictive. We were expected to honor the president and the office that he held regardless of party affiliation.

So it's not going to be easy. Okay, we need to be mad enough to get every registered
Democrat to the polls. We need to navigate the new rules set by those who are trying
to supress the vote. It's time to downshift and work harder. It's not over if the voting bill does
not pass.

race has caused the worst misery on this planet. This whole fiasco we are experiencing is being supported and run by a party that is about 90% Anglo. They are in terror that their power, their culture, and their influence is being threatened. Poor white people.....they are so mistreated and villainized.

Thanks for thinking that I’m a horrible person just because I was born Anglo. Newsflash: I’m not.

I believe that painting with such a broad brush really creates anger. But that’s my opinion. I’m free to have that opinion and you’re free to disagree.

I refuse to be defined by history. I’m an individual responsible and accountable for my actions. I’m not responsible for history.

Wish you well but we obviously we don’t see eye to eye on this issue so it’s futile to discuss further.

videos in language and images that a six-year-old would understand. Each day Biden hold a press conference with a moments silence for those who have died of covid and state estimates of the numbers of vaccinated vs unvaccinated. Attack those who are anti-mask and anti-vaccine for being reckless with other people's lives and call out those lawmakers and media outlets who have used misinformation in a way that has led to more hospitalizations, deaths and damage to the economy. How's that for starters? What I am not seeing is any effort whatsoever to fight back against the Republican BS.

Trump had 53 senate votes and he didn’t get ACA killed as he famously campaigned against with McCain’s memorable thumb down. So they weren’t as united as you said.

I get it that it’s disappointing not to get everything we wanted and Biden campaigned for. But we only have 50 senate votes. We did get an infrastructure bill passed. Stop selling us short or else you fall into republican’s trap of getting discouraged yourself and other to vote democratic.

The lesson is that we need more senate seats, not that our party can’t function.

The republicans I know all believe Trump is the best thing and they act as if the failure of killing ACA didn’t happen. As shown by OP and some other in this thread, it works. People think republicans are all united when the fact is they didn’t.

I wish we would be more like them, go out and sell how good the infrastructure bill is and how it is helping everyone. Then convince people that we need more senate seats so we can pass the failed BBB bill too.

Instead, we see posts like these……

I couldn't care less about the former guy, his family, his cronies, and the republican politicians. Fuck 'em. They are nothing to me, they are not worth the energy it takes to hate them. I know they will get what they have coming to them. I will do whatever I can do to see them defeated, other than that, I try not to dwell on them too much. I trust our justice system to handle them. And if they are not taken care of, then well, they are going to turn to dust just like we all are.

What I do dwell on, however, is the fact that I had no idea that approximately 30% of my fellow Americans were so fucked in the head. People I know and talk to have lost their fucking minds. I view them as weak and feeble minded. We have too many dumb fucks in this country who cannot function without a daddy figure. Too many who use religion as a crutch to express warped ideas. THEY are the ones who have possibly ruined this country for good because they felt emboldened to crawl out from under their rocks. Asshole politicians come and go, but these smooth brained fuckers raise their kids to be just like them, and this makes for a tumultuous state of being, when there is absolutely no reason for it.

So fuck these people with molten glass. Fuck 'em sideways. Fuck these idiots who call themselves "patriots" when they would not recognize patriotism if it walked up to them, looked them in the eye, and then pissed on their shoes. Fuck these people who think that "doing research" involves reading some shit on Facebook.

It's gotten to the point where I take great pleasure in mocking these assholes and verbally slapping the dog shit out of them.

..just out vote 'em. That's what happened in 2020. Admittedly, the additional measures that allowed more people to vote was a factor but the new 'suppression' laws will affect Republicans as well as Democrats. There have been theories that the suppression stuff will backfire on the Pugs. And I'm sure the Dem strategists and campaign people will be very enthusiastic in getting people registered and to the polls.

As someone else said, I'm not discouraged, just pissed.

The most disconcerting possibility is the state legislatures taking over the election process and having the authority to ignore the vote count, in which case, out-voting is not an option.

Perhaps a better word for my state of mind is not discouraged, but disappointed with a large segment of our citizens. It is difficult to accept that so many of my neighbors are embracing concepts that are diametrically opposed to the very Constitution that I was raised to respect. A nation that many of my relatives who gave their life. A nation that I raised my and hand and swore to protect with my enlistment in the US Army. My heart breaks when each of my fellow soldiers is laid to rest as the nation whose motto is: Out of Many One, is torn to shreds by vicious demagogues whose only concern is their hold on power. The echo of Taps has become a message that leaves me feeling desperate for sign of hope. I can assure you that many of my fellow service members have the same feeling. I am grateful that so many are determined to not lose faith.
