General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsImagine, please, that you are on a ten person crew trying to extinguish a brush fire.
You continually work like crazy to put out a blaze in one area only to find new fires growing in other locations. Again and again this occurs: as flames are quelled in one place they spring up in another.
After a while, you notice that a couple members of the crew are not fighting fires; they're lighting them. As the rest of you get scorched putting out flames that threaten the entire forest, these two are spritzing dry brush with gasoline and dropping a lit match on it!
You would not just scold them.
You would not simply shun them.
You would do whatever it took to get these arsonists off the team so the forest could be saved.
Some may see this post a "Congressional metaphor" and feel outrage. Others will just shrug and say "whatever".

(5,931 posts)and some of the crew are going down in the bilge and scraping away at the hull from the inside, hammering at it it, prying it apart at the seams. You would toss the miscreants overboard in a heartbeat. Or maybe put them ashore on a desert island somewhere.

(11,795 posts)what were dealing with is there is a large part of the media that call the arsonists heroes. The other side of the media tell us that the firefighters bear as much of the blame. Meanwhile our friends, neighbors, and family members sing the praises of the arsonists and blame the firefighters. After a decade and a half of this shit, it gets harder and harder not to just shrug your shoulders and say whatever.

(11,261 posts)Every Republican.
They're the arsonists. We expect treachery from them.
The OP is about people who are supposed to be on the fire-fighting team but who are helping the arsonists instead.
Seemed pretty obvious to me.

(15,124 posts)Note that I said "Congressional" metaphor, not "Senatorial" metaphor.
Every Republican in either chamber who voted to reject Biden"s clear electoral victory even AFTER their seditious co-conspirators invaded and defiled our Capitol is one of the "arsonists" referenced in my OP.
