AOC 'COVID was no joke' as she reflects on her time in quarantine

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is reflecting on her bout with COVID-19, which she says has made her "slow down" in order to recover. On Jan. 9 the Democrat congresswoman's team announced that she had tested positive for the coronavirus and was experiencing symptoms following a trip to Miami over the holidays.

On Saturday, Ocasio-Cortez returned to Instagram to share the news that she's on the mend and urge followers to take precautions to avoid illness and reduce spread. Her post included a series of photos documenting her time in quarantine, from a positive test alongside a negative one to a shot of her snuggled under a blanket with Deco, the French bulldog she shares with longtime boyfriend Riley Roberts.

"Welp, so it happened," she wrote. "Got COVID, probably Omicron. As of today I am thankfully recovered and wrapping up quarantine, but COVID was no joke. For a while I’ve noted the term 'mild' is misleading when the bar is hospitalization and death. Even 'mild' cases can result in long COVID, which includes a range of conditions like cognitive impairment, POTS and chronic fatigue. This isn’t to be a downer or induce fear, just a reminder that we need to be careful (N95s in crowded indoor spaces like stores) and if you do get it, it’s key to care for yourself and REST."

Ocasio-Cortez went on to criticize the CDC's recently updated guidance that halves the recommended isolation time from 10 to five days for people with COVID-19, which has prompted many employers to revise their sick leave and quarantine policies.

Everyone there puts on a show like life is back to normal but you see what happens when you let your mask down for a holiday.

Glad to hear she is getting better though. Lesson learned.

In mandatory mask wear stores, before they get crowded, it's worse now than ever before

In and out as quickly as possible when the least number of people are shopping. And I will never, ever go back to three stores which allowed maskless shoppers. I feel fortunate to have a rural residence on an acreage with a garden and full freezers. I make sure to sincerely thank and praise every worker I encounter when I do go out.

And being vaxxed certainly lessened the severity of her illness. I am not going to fault her for it when it's inevitable that we will probably all get it at some point.

12. The CDC mad a bad choice in switching from 10 days to 5

Because, in the same way that people will drive 85 in a 75mph zone, they will return to work in 3 days rather than 5 if they decide that they feel better.

If the actual contagion period is 5 days, then the minimal return time should be 10 days, because people will absolutely undercut it.

The CDC is absolutely terrible at messaging, and when they're criticized for giving inconsistent or contradictory instructions, they respond by issuing further contradictory instructions.
