Japan's motorcycle shipments rise amid pandemic

Japan's domestic motorcycle shipments posted their first annual increase for four years in 2021. That came as people sought a means of transport that avoided crowds amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association says 378,720 two-wheelers were shipped in the country last year, a 15 percent increase from 2020.

Concern about the spread of the coronavirus boosted demand for personal vehicles.

One motorcycle shop in Tokyo saw its unit sales rise about 10 percent.
