Think about it.
It's not just the Republican Prostitutes, it is their billionaire Johns.
And it's not just Republicans taking the $$$ either.
Look at what a few million did to help Sinema and Manchin decide to screw our democracy to death.
It's the money, but it's even more. It is the above the law billionaires who's money is destroying our democracy.
It's not just Rupert. Think about it.
A billionaire can hire an army of lobbyists, and fund hundreds of anti-democracy organizations to pressure politicians a dozen different ways to do their bidding, and enrich them even more. The filthy rich can send hundreds of millions of dark money to be spent destroying any politician who threatens their grip on power, and their tax free status. Just look at ALEC, or the Heritage scum, and the hundreds of other organizations who only have one goal in mind. Make government work for only the 1%. and protect their protected status.
The billionaires have their own pet elephants sitting on the scales of justice. No matter what they do, they are never arrested. Don't tell me no billionaire ever asked for / demanded a favor from a politician. Every action they take demands they get everything they want.
The entire system is completely, and totally broken. It is 100 times worse than even Bernie or Elizabeth talk about. The rigged game.
The billionaires use the pretense of democracy to rob us blind. Our taxes, our government bailouts, and destroy our planet. Then will even start needless wars so they can get richer.
And they have ABSOLUTELY nothing to fear.
Nothing.
They are robbing us, and using their money to fry our democracy all so they can build piles of money all the way to their private space stations accessed by their private rockets.
These people need to be stopped. Period. They have us convinced to "vote" when they, their wealth, and their power are completely untouchable. And their power is increasing more every day. No one voted to have their mom and pop shop pay more taxes than Verizon, Boeing, Amazon, or all the other democracy destroyers.
Just thought I would point out what is REALLY going on.....
Sorry folks.
It's more than just Proud Scum, 3%ers, The KLAN and the militias. Those are all horrible, nasty, deadly distractions from the true plundering that is happening right before our eyes. Democracy is dying, and it isn't just because of TFG. This is no game. The ice is melting, and one billionaire funded pile of coal scum, with every single Republican helping him is stopping our government from doing anything meaningful about our soon to be too hot to survive on planet.
Agree?

But its just to keep in touch with family! They say.
Farmer-Rick
(10,154 posts)They have come to monopolize almost all industries.
Use to be a local farmer could sell his local produce to schools, grocery stores, hospitals, restaurants. Now each of those industries are monopolized by one or 2 major corporate chain that does nation wide contracts. And they get the lowest bidder they possibly can despite the quality. The lowest bidder is usually, but not always, the foreign suppliers who use illegal (in the US) herbicides, pesticides and never ending floods of fertilizers.
Everyone of those markets are now controlled by big conglomerates that has crap for quality but their selling point is cheap, cheap food.
If I want to sell to my local grocery store, I have to sign a contract with one of his producers who tell me what and how much to plant and grow. They tell me what GMO seeds to use and how much Round-Up and poisonous insecticides to pour on my corn. They even tell me what very expensive equipment I need to buy, with my own money. Then, after I grow it as duly instructed, I have to sell it back to them for pennies and constant complaints. And somehow I make less and less profit every year despite the debt I carry to get all the right equipment. Soon the soil is exhausted and I now get to drench fertilizers all over it, and let it stay fallow for years, so I can grow something.
So, you really don't have a choice. Many of the so called "different" companies are actually all under one corporation. It's a shell game - one company pretending to be 10 little companies. And they drive the little guy out of business so that all the markets feed into all these companies that are really just one company with really only one major stockholder who reaps in all the wealth on his dividend returns.
So, as it stands now, you have to buy what they are selling or you can just not eat.
Or we could all have one big revolt and stop working for a couple of months. Stop working all across the country until the filthy rich and the CEOs start paying a 95% tax on all their wealth over $5 million.

In a hurry.
Just look who cashed out during the pandemic, and are now price gouging simply because they can. You see farmers and ranchers getting a cut of the price increases / inflation.
Wake up.

(51,584 posts)Just last night while trying to fall asleep I was thinking about who/what is more corrupt, business or politics. I guess that watching the film Being There is what triggered this particular thought. I couldn't decide if it was greedy businesses or the politicians. They seem to go hand in hand.

(3,635 posts)more than the disease, which has been festering for many years.
The appeals to democracy by activists may be falling on deaf ears because to many voters of all backgrounds and political stripes - democracy has never fully existed for them. They can see how the wealthy buy elections and how the system works mainly for a global elite while the rest fight over crumbs. For black and brown voters, a racial caste system (that is intertwined with class oppression) means that even basic rights such as the right to vote are under constant assault.

(4,619 posts)Where do you get the money?
Everywhere.
We have to take the money to do any good and get elected, but no one should pretend the money doesn't influence the people that need it.
Not everyone can fundraise like Bernie.
