Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says 'COVID Was No Joke,' Shares Photos After Recovery

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said she has “thankfully recovered” and is “wrapping up quarantine” after announcing on Jan. 9 that she had tested positive for COVID-19 and was experiencing symptoms.

“Welp, so it happened. Got COVID, probably omicron,” she wrote on Instagram on Saturday in the caption of a post that included a picture of both positive and negative rapid tests, as well as a photo of her cuddling her French bulldog, Deco.

“COVID was no joke,” she wrote. “For a while I’ve noted the term ‘mild’ is misleading when the bar is hospitalization and death. Even ‘mild’ cases can result in long COVID, which includes a range of conditions like cognitive impairment, POTS, & chronic fatigue.”

The New York Democrat said her message wasn’t intended to induce fear, but to remind people to be careful, wear N95 masks in crowded indoor spaces like stores, and to rest if infected.

Governor Newsom of California was criticized heavily when he attended a large gathering in the middle of the pandemic, while telling others not to do so.

On this I think it is important that Democrats set the example, which we do for the most part

That would make an impact….someone like her to tell people how easy it can be to make a mistake.

Certainly, we all have things we have done that were not intelligent, in our youth. Funnily 32 is young to a 73 year old and I guess to a 48 year old.

The difference I think, between you, myself, and AOC is that she is a Representative of the United States House. She has been a critic of people who do not mask and take safety precautions including vaccination and social distancing. Being a public figure, you begrudgingly take on more responsibility as an example.

I do not plan on holding this against AOC indefinitely, but if you cannot see that her statements tend to be undercut by her actions of going to a club and not following safety protocols, then I think that brand loyalty is clouding your view.

We should be able to disagree and disapprove of things that our representatives do that do not comport with the values they (and we) espouse. That doesn't mean that we are going to be voting Republican, or that we hate them. We are just pointing out that it was not a good move on her part.

I am on her side too. I love my sons and my daughter. That doesn't mean that I don't tell them that I am disappointed in choices that they have made, especially if those choices go against values or may have caused harm.
