A man charged for participating in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot had his pretrial release revoked Tuesday after a dramatic arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated. James Tate Grant was arrested for drunk driving in a Wake County, North Carolina in December. He told the police who flagged him down that he had been at the Capitol on Jan. 6, charging documents state. Grant attempted to get away during the arrest, according to police, but then dropped to the ground and said, “Just kill me now. It’s over.” In his car, the cops found an AR-15, 60 rounds of ammunition, and combat fatigues. Conditions of his bail as he awaits trial for allegedly assaulting a police officer on Jan. 6 prohibited firearm possession, excessive drinking, and drug use, leading the Justice Department to request he be remanded into custody. He had previously tested positive for amphetamines twice, noted Judge Timothy Kelly, who ordered Grant’s incarceration, saying “There seems to be a toxic combination of substance abuse problems, alleged mental health issues and repeated access to firearms that poses a really serious threat to the community.”

“There seems to be a toxic combination of substance abuse problems, alleged mental health issues and repeated access to firearms that poses a really serious threat to the community.”

These type of magats may pose a serious threat to the community and there should be general concern…what can’t be explained is the fear anyone has of Twitter tirades and an army of tweeters. That is not power, that is virtual reality, it’s an illusion.

Some of those tweeters will (ahem) lose their shit and kill someone. They'll be "lone wolves" despite the fact that they've been steeping in a toxic stew of rightwing hate. (but I repeat myself)

It's like asking society to hold on to a string of old firecrackers. Only 2% will go off, but you'd be stupid to hold onto it. The real question is why has the "liberally biased media" been so delicate when protecting violent rightwing rhetoric. We've been observing this phenomena since the '80s, saw it ramp up in the '90s, Trump seems to have removed the inhibitions. People who probably were restrained by the threat of incarceration are now under the impression that laws will not be applied to them. Only time will tell if their right.

Just curious. I know if you don't show, you forfeit is it the same if you fail to comply with conditions?

Likely -- the loss of bail will be orders of magnitude larger than the "restitution" of $500 that has been typical for these insurrectionists.

KEEP THE VIOLENT INSURRECTIONISTS BEHIND BARS . . . . period!

No conditions, because these insurrectionists do NOT believe in the laws they are breaking. Plain and simple: KEEP THEM LOCKED UP!
