I watched Senator Manchin's speech on the Senate floor today.

And I have to say that if this were a perfect world I would agree with him. We desperately need bipartisanship. And there used to be a time when we had it. Remember back in the Sixties when Republican votes allowed passage of landmark civil rights legislation? It wouldn't have passed without their support due to the intransigence of racist Democratic senators from the South. We owe the likes of Everett Dirksen a great deal of gratitude.

But those days are long gone and I don't see them coming back anytime soon. As we all know today's Republican Party is a fascist cult (with a few notable exceptions such as Liz Cheney,) With today's Republican Party bipartisanship is dead in the water. This party will do all it can to obstruct and obfuscate and set this country back. If Senator Manchin thinks otherwise he is either very stupid, or naïve. And if the talking heads are right and the Republicans regain control of either or both houses of Congress, President Biden's agenda will be dead in the water for at least the next two years. I am very sad and pessimistic.

They believe in the bill, but they don’t want to change the rule, the only solution they have is to convince a few Republicans to come over. So far I haven’t seen them even try I don’t think they’re trying at all, all they wanna do is act self-righteous

To work up a budget bill that would be acceptable to republicans and it was a complete culsterfuck. In the end he had zero buy-in from the rancid right. What he is wanting is impossible with the current GQP. If he doesn’t understand that, he needs to pay more attention at his day job.

And he is using his call for bipartisanship just as a smokescreen.
