where they will debate, each senator can speak twice for as long as they need and at the end they can then vote without a filibuster, and so will only need 50 votes without changing the filibuster. Have I got that right?

When 41 people can prevent voting .....................

Let just make the country watch Republicans fighting against voting for the next month, just before an election. Republicans versus the voters, let them dig their own hole.

Outlaw gerrymanders, restore most felon voting rights, national mail voting option, no excuse absentee voting, equalize early voting nationally, same day registration nationally, automatic registration. Did I forget anything?

3/5th of all members, whether they show up or not.

Meaning that if 41 senators want to filibuster, they don't have to do anything, they don't even really have to show up. They just have to not vote for cloture.

Technically, I'm guessing one senator has to call for the cloture vote in the first place. Maybe another has to second it, I don't know. But the rest can stay home.

Rules changed in 1975 I think, the burden is now on the majority to end debate rather than on the minority to keep it going.

we want to avoid litigation against the new law on the basis that the election is too close. Likewise, gerrymanders are happening now. We need to force them through the process and end run cloture as they make fools of themselves.

or so he says now while getting cover by the vote on the filibuster change failing.

We'll see as things develop. I suspect a piecemeal approach if the whole bill isn't debated until a vote happens instead of trying for cloture. But it was good to call a vote on cloture to get everyone on record, racists to the right please, democracy to the left.
