Biden won the election because of his honesty, his experience, who he is.
Biden understands why Republicans in congress, people he has known for years are afraid of the primaries. He doesn't understand , like us, why the Republicans he has known for years have become complete cowards. People who will draw no lines when it comes to protecting our country.
The Republicans of today will be remembered as the biggest cowards in our history.
How can Biden, any president, defend our nation when dealing with this level of cowardice?

(7,512 posts)Biden made mentioning George Wallace. He didn't say what they accused him of but he was actually spot on - these Trumpers are very similar to George Wallace but even worse in my opinion. Wallace was openly racist but the GOP is overtly racist and years from now those that voted for Trump will be regarded in a similar manner.

(499 posts)can't seem to understand that the normal rules of decorum, etiquette and engagement do not apply. Instead of trying to be reasonable, they should have taken the fight to a level that would actually protect this country. We are in a war to save the US from a fascist takeover, and they haven't yet woken up to that fact.

the reTHUG Fascists but if there's anything to be learned it's that the "Good Trouble"
advocated by John Lewis and others during the struggle to end ethnic discrimination it's that
breaking the law can result in considerable political and social gain. So let's march and
demonstrate in a peaceful way and put ourselves at risk for arrest. This is fighting fire with
fire.

(24,355 posts)what does that mean, exactly? What would you have him, Schumer, Pelosi, et. al do? Break the law too? I hear this kind of talk a lot on our side, but without any real clear idea on what to do differently. Certainly, we don't want to become like them?

(11,694 posts)It is too easy to say, "Fight fire with fire" or "We have to play dirty like them". People here say it all the time, but when you ask them what that means and what it would look like, there is rarely an answer.
It goes back to the analogy of "burning down the village to save the village". American troops in Vietnam burned down villages to stop the Vietcong from having a place to operate (viable military strategy) but instead of stopping the Vietcong, they helped rally more people to the Vietcong and North Vietnamese side. If you burn down my house to keep the enemy from using it, then I might start to look at the enemy's point of view more closely because yes, they come in and take rice or something, but they did not just burn down my house.
If we fight like Republicans and disregard the laws and traditions of our democracy, then is it a system really worth fighting for? How can we then go back and say, we also engaged in destroying democracy, but now we are going to go back to the way things were?

(499 posts)Biden could sit down with Manchin and outline for him the various Federal centers which will be immediately closed and relocated from WV. The Executive orders to lower and freeze the price of Epi Pens and the immediate banning of certain mining practices which are peculiar to WV. Then make sure his bank rolling financiers are aware of such things.
Then, start to do all of what you threatened, plus, request the DOJ to investigate certain "irregularities" in certain pharma markets and mining industries.

on people and still be working within the law.

I'm think EOs on voting rights that All Americans will agree with but he knows will fail in court because of GQP hate of democracy.
That is better than trying to talk to bull shitters

(4,298 posts)1 I don't recall many GOPers refusing to acknowledge that Obama won his two elections. There are still many GOPers in the House and in the Senate who will not acknowledge that Biden won in 2020.
2 Biden knew deep down or even on the surface that Obama's opposition was largely based on his race. Biden can't figure out what their reason would be since he is a white male.
So I understand why Biden is baffled. He didn't realize how really really racist, evil, greedy and hateful his buddies on the other side were until Trump's election and behavior gave them permission to be exactly who they really are without consequence.
