(4,999 posts)Had a good tip the veggie-curry dishes were excellent, and they were.
But one selection was literally "Bland". OMG, what do the British consider so bland they call it out as "Bland".

(102,255 posts)The BLML or Bland Meal should be ordered by those who suffer from stomach or intestinal problems. These special meals will normally contain foods that are easily digested, soft to eat and with limited spices.

(27,099 posts)my daughter and I stayed at common little B&Bs. One morning at breakfast we were seated with several Brits. I took a piece of toast from one of those racks and the woman next to me gave me a horrified look. I hadn't realized there were individual toast racks, and I took one of her slices. It was embarrassing.

(14,118 posts)I was almost six years old and in Southampton and London for a month I experienced
my first grapefruit with a cherry in the middle, my first boiled egg in an egg cup, my first
view of television, a visit to The British Museum, my first experience with a very clean
underground/subway (which I appreciated after being in New York later) and
my very first chocolate-covered cherry candies.
Those experiences absolve a lot of the Sins Of British Cuisine. And never forget that chutney was one of the Brit gifts to India. It all balances out.

(56,197 posts)Sod it--after all what do you think the British colonized India for? Certainly not in order to be blessed by Shiva. No, it was so that England could have Indian restaurants to protect the UK from having to forever subsist on British food!

(63,221 posts)Good fish and chips. I don't even really like fried food that much, but I definite enjoy an authentic meal of fish and chips every now and then. With malt vinegar. Skip the mushy peas.

(4,246 posts)And it became a thing there. Not saying they didn't have baked beans there prior but it was Heinz who hooked them to baked beans; AFAIK.
Real Heinz baked beans from UK I believe are less sweet then USA type and don't have pork in them... I think.

Mexico, N.Y. -- Grandma Browns Baked Beans could soon return to store shelves, according to the granddaughter of the woman who first baked the Central New York favorite more than 80 years ago.

I've had them growing up because that's what was put in front of me at the dinner table. I can thankfully say I've never prayed for Grandma Brown's Baked Beans. [blech]

* ITEM: He almost pushed Meat Loaf into a moat for attracting Fergie's attention, and when the Loaf made to get physical, said, "You can't touch me, I'm ------ *royal*!1
* ITEM: Throws tantrums if the servants don't arrange his collection of 72 teddy bears correctly on his bed.
Seems like he could almost singlehandedly convince Brit royalists to ditch the "royal" freeloader/grifting/deadbeat system!
