Limiting their press appearances without prior permission and further monitoring of social media? I know I'm not allowed to speak with the media about anything remotely work related and I'm not making millions of dollars yearly.
I'm a multi generation Packer fan but Rodgers spent more time running his mouth this season than practicing. I wouldn't be surprised to see future contracts limiting these appearances without prior approval.
(And before we get into all this cheering for the 49ers let's not forget how they helped permanently screw over one of their own players who, btw, is originally from Milwaukee. I swore I'd never root for them after Kaepernick and I haven't.)

(53,764 posts)don't think the players' union would go along with that.

(64,995 posts)Agree on both points.
I don't, however, hold the Kap thing against Shanahan.
I know he was the one to cut him, but he was brought in to run his misdirection offense & Kap didn't fit it. I suspect also, that the 49ers were going to release him, no matter who the new coach was.
I'll save my disgust for the cowards in the front office.

(5,586 posts)A big focus of the NFL is charity work provided by players. They have the Walter Payton award every year for players that perform on and off the field.
I'm sure NFL contracts include some incentives for players to interact with the community, and I don't see how they can separate that from normal social media behavior.
One thing players will always understand though is money and sponsorships. They see what happened to Colin Kaepernick, and they see how Michael Jordan behaved to the media when it came to race. I suspect more of them will act like Jordan than like Kaepernick.

(14,959 posts)IIRC it was a ten year deal, negotiated/signed two years ago.
The CBA can certainly be modified (it was due to Covid, for example), but that becomes a negotiation, and if the owners want something they are going to have to give something...

(20,833 posts)Some teams are already extremely closed lips (see Belichick tree of coaches).
That said, the NFL forces teams to interact with the media because its an entertainment industry and media interaction helps bottom line. Coaches hate it, the NFL as a whole (not so much).

(7,771 posts)...the NFL is a PR machine. They don't care if the PR is positive or negative. They just want fans to be thinking about football 24/7.
As a 9er's lifelong fan born in the Bay Area i can say a few things about Rodgers.
He is a generational talent and a first ballot hall of famer.
He is a Diva.
I wish we would have drafted him when we had the chance.
We were lucky to win that game last night. Both teams played their hearts out. I love Green Bay and their fan base. They truly represent the best of sports. They are passionate, gracious, hometown fans is the best sense of the words. They love the Packers and why not with that history. It is a shame that one team had to lose. When Rodgers and Adams beat us in the last few seconds of week 3 the Bay Area fans were truly distraught. Nobody here could believe we lost that game that way. But that is football at the highest level.
I don't know what they can do with Rodgers. He is going to do what he wants to do. Running his mouth is part of the package. I still can't believe he has not committed to stay with this team the rest of his career. He just wouldn't look right in another uniform.
Good luck. Losing sucks. Most of us would trade Jimmy G for Aaron straight up in a heartbeat. Adams and Rodgers both grew up 9er's fans in areas within a few hours of where I grew up. I wish they were both 49er's. But you have to play with the team you have.
I just hope Aaron decides to stay with the pack or just retires. I don't want to see him go to any other team unless it is the red and gold.
Much respect!
PS: WE LOVE DEEBO!

(7,771 posts)...his anti-vax BS showed how selfish he is. I can't blame you for wanting him out of there. Some things transcend fandom.

(16,829 posts)The league probably wants a certain amount of that because it promotes the games.
But can you control what they say? Doubtful, unless its breaking a law.

(32,633 posts)Former Pittsburgh Steeler, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer, former whatever. That guy has the talent and statistics to be a first-round Hall of Famer. BUT .... he's made a complete ass of himself and disgraced his teams numerous times. Just a few months ago he was caught submitting a fake vaccination card - the guy is anti-vaxx but he claimed he got shots before the season started. Total lie and big fines besides. Last month his coach Bruce Arians tried to bench him during the game and he went crazy and took off his uniform, threw it into the stands and stomped off the field like a pouting child. There are many other stories of him being in trouble with the law, bad-mouthing his teams and fellow teammates, etc. He's just bad news all around.
I'm a lifelong fan of the Steelers and I want to tell you that AB was loved in Pittsburgh ... until he wasn't. It wasn't his ability (which is genuine), it was attitude and crazy behavior on and off the field. Most of us were glad when he left Pittsburgh for good.
I have no idea whether Green Bay Packers fans feel the same way about Aaron Rodgers. But he has flipped them the bird more than once. It would certainly annoy me.
