No war - but BRUTAL Global Economic Sanctions will bring Russia to its knees by next winter.

We are talking almost every industrial country in the World. And Mega Corporations too.

These are not the economic sanctions your grandpap was familiar with either. These will be sanctions on steroids.

Putin eventually will be facing an internal Civil War if he tries to annex the Ukraine. Think Saddam Hussein and multiply by 100.

They are dependent on being supplied by Russian energy sources, natural gas for their power plants most of all. Germany shutting down almost all their nuclear plants and relying even more on natural gas has made this very tricky.

The first link is paywalled, and the WSJ is not exactly an unbiased paper of record.

Bloomberg is hedging bets in their article, it spins Putin's way which I would expect.

I did find this gem in the article though:

Sanctions against Russia would also benefit U.S. exporters who are seeking to ship more liquefied natural gas into Europe.

I'd expect the EU would also temporarily turn to other sources of energy, such as coal which could benefit the coal producing states.
Germany could delay the retirement of it's remaining Nuclear plants for a while. And it will spur construction of more Wind power and Solar Power farms.

The US and most sane Global Cartels will be assisting our NATO Allies in the EU. And Britain.

Won't be easy but stopping Authoritarian aggression has never been easy.

It's what NATO is designed to do.

Anyway, thanks for the links and have a good day. Made my case and moving on.

India is spending much to upgrade its military to counter China. Also India can restrict ocean traffic through the Malacca Straits where much of the oil China imports from the Middle East passes.

Australia is not in Asia but it is aligning itself with Asian countries that oppose China. As China doesn't produce enough coal to meet domestic demands, its imports coal from Australia.

Shortages of oil and coal would severely hamper industrial production in China.

Somehow the USA with 81 million Biden voters and a military that is 45% minorities is the same as what German Jews faced when they were 0.5% of the total population. And now god needs to 'help us' because the entire planet is going to go to war for freakin Ukraine?

Geez, got to be better than this.

the world just can't be bothered with this, frankly. covid has cost the global economy trillions of dollars, every major power is dealing with political strife from right wing lunatics trying to spread the virus... we enough problems here and while i support helping ukraine with materials, we just cannot afford the cost in money or lives it would take to kick Russia out. There is just to much to deal with here.

of course, the Democrats will be CRUSHED for letting russia take ukraine, but they would also be CRUSHED for going to war over this when so many Domestic issues need attention. As always, there is nothing the Democrats can do that won't draw fury from the media.
