1. Thom Hartmann was supported for years by Russian Military Intelligence.

2. He had shows on Russian Propaganda tv in the US (RT). He cashed paychecks from Putin.

Segments from his show were used to portray America in a negative light to people in Russia as well.

There is no excuse for anyone claiming to be a patriotic American to be hosted on RT. I still cannot believe that he is on "Progressive" talk radio.

3. Thom Hartmann doesn't need me to defend him.

It’s kind of sad that members of a progressive, usually well-informed community like DU would judge his entire body of work based on a 1-hour TV show he left several years ago. I’ve been a regular listener of his 3-hour daily radio program for well over a decade, and have grown to trust him as one of the most effective, relevant, intellectually honest commentators of our time, right up there with Rachel Maddow.

Setting aside opinions about Thom Hartmann, my OP was about Joe Trippi’s project to form a broad, powerful coalition to save our democracy. It would be a shame if any DUers looking for a way to join the battle were turned off by the aspersions cast on Thom. As he says at the end of every show, “Democracy is not a spectator sport. Tag, you’re it.”

For anyone who wants a fuller picture than the one painted by two misleading comments, here’s a place to start. Even better, try listening to his radio show. Judge for yourself whether he’s a true patriot and progressive.

BTW, he regularly uses DU as a resource, and always credits the person who posted the comment that caught his attention.
