but anyone looking for people without what some imagine are "only in America" faults and without threatening RW extremism and violence won't find them. That said, a majority French voters did say no to turning their nation over to their own far-right extremists and the specter of authoritarianism or outright fascism when they elected Macron, to the world's great relief. The latter are still there too, though.

Last fall already, we have had to show proof of vaccination to go into any restaurant or café. Same goes for trains and planes, though airports are stricter. You don‘t even get a boarding pass without proof of vaccination, and, in Germany at least, teams of two or more polite but well-equipped security teams spot check trains, asking passengers for their vax proof.
