Mark Kelly broke his silence over the censure of his Democratic colleague Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, with a campaign spokesperson saying he disagreed with it and she should not be singled out over her opposition to changing the Senates filibuster rules.
"Senator Kelly does not support the censure, Sarah Guggenheimer of the Kelly campaign told The Arizona Republic Tuesday.
While they came to different decisions on this vote, he looks forward to continuing to work with Senator Sinema on Arizona priorities, as they have done during his first year in the Senate to pass critical infrastructure investments that will create good-paying jobs," Guggenheimer said.
Kelly, D-Ariz., is in good standing with the party and his support of Sinema, D-Ariz., could help diffuse some of the animosity towards Sinema that is coming from progressives over an issue that the left often casts as key to the fate of President Joe BIden's agenda and fair elections across the country.

(7,759 posts)ignoring her constituents, avoiding her supporters, gumming up BBB, pandering to Mitch, accepting right wing donations, skipping votes in favor of junkets and boondoggles, mean girl theatrics...because a US senator cannot be recalled, a censure pretty much guarantees her political career is over...

(89,174 posts)She is unpopular so it wouldn't really hurt him politically to support it . But I don't think it helps much either . It just doesn't make much difference politically.

(29,658 posts)They're coworkers. They need to spend time together to fight for what's best for their state. Siding with the censure would make for very awkward situations.
He can just wait out a primary race against her. If she wins they still work together. If she loses he pledges to support the primary winner. Anything else doesn't really benefit him at this time.

(10,811 posts)No sense in waging a civil war within Dem ranks when we have a crucial election coming up in November. The energy, the focus needs to be directed in holding the seats we have (Kelly's included) and pulling out a magic trick by adding to our razor-thin majority. If we do the latter then Sinema is put on the backbench. The real deal will come when she's up for reelection in 2024.
Then everyone can cheer: Adios, Sinema.
