Other names that have been floated

Circuit Judge Eunice Lee, a former New York public defender whom Biden nominated to the Second Circuit on the recommendation of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Circuit Judge Candace Jackson-Akiwumi, an alumna of Chicago's public defender's office whose appointment by Biden to the Seventh Circuit was cheered by Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin of Illinois.
Sherrilyn Ifill, a civil rights attorney who recently announced plans to step down from her role as President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

OP
bucolic_frolic
(43,062 posts)1. Any nominee
with part of their name sounding "African" will surely cause cranial explosions on the right.
I doubt it will be someone from California, or other Democratic strongholds.
So my hunch is Judge Jackson, Childs, or Wright.
onenote
(42,598 posts)4. Wright, like Ifill, is closer to 60 than 50 and probably won't get nominated.

(17,194 posts)5. May Wiley is middle age ... 58
onenote
(42,598 posts)6. Out of the past 14 SCOTUS nominees
only one has been older than 57. Only four were 55 or older. This goes all the way back to 1981.
It will be a total shock if it's not someone under 55.

(51,308 posts)8. Lol, as much as I liked to think I was middle aged at 58...
Youd have to live to 116. Just sayin.
Torchlight
(3,293 posts)9. Accurate.
The three most referenced English dictionaries (as well as AP Styleguide) lists Middle Age as between 45 and 65. Which finds me in the middle of the middle. I feel younger just typing that.

onenote
(42,598 posts)3. Nope. I want someone closer to 50 than to 60. Ifill turns 60 this year.

(144,939 posts)7. I have been a fan of Sherrilyn Ifill for a long time
She would be a great choice
