So what could go wrong?

Scenario One

Let's say we get a Supreme nominee before the midterms. We put it up for a Senate confirmation vote.

The GQP goes to the buddy Kyrsten who decides to get all mavericky.

We're fucked.

Scenario Two

We get a nominee but for any of a thousand reasons, we get no Senate vote before the midterms.

We lose the Senate.

I can imagine another vacant seat until the 2024 cycle gets to a result.

Our two stalwart Supremes get their asses kicked.

We lose the seat or we have to settle for someone acceptable to the other side.

In other words, we're fucked.

Scenario Three
Best case:

We get party unity and a great young liberal mind on the court who is also a firebrand, black, and female.

Scenario Four
Next best case:

We get party unity and a moderate young left of center mind on the court who is not Catholic or white.

My hope is Three. My prediction is Four.

I have been kind of mulling it over and can't think of many.

Hoping that Schumer and Biden will move quickly so this is all done and forgotten before the campaigns really get started.

Hoping for scenario #3

For an atheist, non-binary or LGBTQ+ person of color to replace Breyer. Oh and to replace about six other SCOTUS (in)Justices.

With a 50/50 senate, I think Biden knows he has to go with someone not a firebrand.

I still think the Biden administration has already talked to each senators and kind of know who they will support or not.
