Let's review what the process is:
STEP 1: The President announces the nominee. The media will focus on the nominee's background and ideology; the impact to the balance of the Court; the political implications of the choice.
STEP 2: The nominee's meetings with key Senate members. Limited details will become public; the media will report on broad leaked or public comments; none will be particularly surprising.
STEP 3: The Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing. The media will report on the nominees response to key issues (abortion/voting rights) and how they held up to harsh questioning from the minority Party)
STEP 4: The Judiciary Committee Vote. The media will report on how the vote plays out and what it suggests for the overall Senate vote.
STEP 5: The Senate Vote. The media will report on what is expected to be the tally, and who votes against expectations.
Each of these element has a finite time period. Adding additional time to the overall process means adding more time to the gaps between each step. Those gaps won't generate any additional news or political buzz.

Dithering around doesn't win any votes anyway.
