(3,617 posts)His style may be a bit dated but his catalog is still extremely popular. And one of his most famous songs, "America," is an anthem to the opportunities provided by immigration.

(10,792 posts)Barry and Neil have little appeal to the ages that are the base of Spotify. Until the hip hop artists step up, this won't affect Spotify.

(2,317 posts)He's not exactly losing a lot of money from this. A lot of his music was already pulled from Spotify a while back, IIRC. Then there's the fact that Spotify doesn't exactly pay much in terms of royalties per play, either. It takes a LOT of song streams for artists to make any kind of money off of Spotify, and most artists don't get that kind of bandwidth from Spotify.
I'm not saying he's doing the wrong thing, just that one way or the other, it's not really going to affect his bottom line much.

Neil Youngs Radio Channel on SiriusXM Is Revived After Spotify Removal
After Spotify refused to cut Joe Rogans lucrative podcast, Sirius re-upped with Mr. Young; other streamers promote the folk-rocker
...
Other streaming services this week promoted that they carried Mr. Youngs music.
Hi-fi streaming service Tidal, which Mr Young has championed for its sound quality, retweeted a fans observation: Love that Neil Young is trending on Tidal and then shared a meme welcoming fresh recruits.

(2,317 posts)I said that he wasn't doing the wrong thing. I also said that him having his music pulled isn't exactly costing him a whole lot in terms of his protest against Joe Rogan. I did NOT say, nor did I even imply what he's doing is a bad thing.
But, just to clarify things, so that there's no further confusion: Spotify isn't going to give two shits about what amounts to a third rate streamer asking to have his music pulled over Joe Rogan's lying and BS'ing. Nor will they give a damn until their big money makers start protesting or enough people start cancelling subscriptions. If Young's protest marks the start of a trend that ultimately gets Rogan's show yanked, all well and good. However, I have a feeling that it's going to be a lot nothing, at least in terms of the artists: Those artists who actually do make money off of Spotify aren't going to risk their royalties in protest. As far as Spotify and Joe Rogan are concerned, the little bit of controversy stirred up by Young will just serve as free advertising for them ("No such thing as bad press", and all that).

(2,317 posts)I'm well aware of what he sold his music catalog rights for. My comment wasn't intended a personal hit on him or on his fans: I didn't call him a "third-rate musician".
My comment was simply to point out that he's not a top tier, nor even second tier streamer, as far as Spotify's streaming service is concerned. If he were, they wouldn't have dropped him like a hot potato.
I'm done here.

(5,639 posts)He has some libertarian views, but most liberals have that too. Libertarians, at least the ones I've met, didn't believe that gay marriage should not illegal and ending the drug war should happen immediately.
Those are the only two things I truly agree with libertarians on.

(204,471 posts)Awhile after that, my parents just happened to run into him and his band while in Britain. He was new to them there at the time and weren't recognized yet(!), but my mother did and stopped to talk to him, said her kids had seen his concert in the States. They were very nice, seemed pleased to be recognized, and they posed for a couple of photos.
