If you will kindly indulge me, here is my rationale:
Americans today appear to be divided into two main groups ... those who find the future terrifying, and those who are excited by it. If one is frightened by the prospect, they will oppose any type of change, and cling to conservatism as a defense mechanism. Those eager to face it will feel liberated in looking ahead, and will accordingly adopt a liberal mindset.
Where it gets tricky is that in the short term, the cowed will always fight dirty, and can achieve immediate short-term success. (See McConnell, Trump, et al.)
However, at the end of the day they must lose, because the forward-looking individuals will learn from their experiences in attempting to affect change, and thus will ultimately thrive and achieve.
(Or possibly I'm just a wishful old fool who received a B- in college philosophy and am now battling my native cynicism because I find the alternative to be unthinkable.)
Anyway, here's hoping.
