thinking about this Kubrick movie today and the complete absurdity of war. Greatest anti-war movie ever made. My favorite scene is a fist fight between the Russian ambassador and a US general in the war room of the White House, and the President says, "You can't fight in here. This is the War Room!"
of course the most famous scene is when Maj Kong (Slim Pickens) rides the bomb.

(10,252 posts)played by Sterling Heyden. Gen Ripper uses the letters POE as part of the code to cancel the nuclear attack. POE stands for purity of essence, because he is obsessed with only drinking pure spring water. He thinks the commies have a pl;ot to Weaken Americans by putting floride in the water systems. He reached this conclusion, when he noticed that he felt weaker after ejaculating in sex. lol lol lol He still has sex with women, but never gives them his pure bodily essence.

(14,651 posts)Mandrake, do you recall what Clemenceau once said about war? ... He said, War is too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, fifty years ago, he may have been right. But today war is too important to be left to the politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion, and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.
I do not avoid women, Mandrake...but I do deny them my essence.

(2,827 posts)Sometime, I'd like to sit and watch this movie and then top it off with Dr. Strangelove for a special double feature:
You get to see Sterling Hayden and Peter Sellers in both movies!
